On July 23, 1996 the "Magnificent Seven" made history by winning the Olympic Team Gold Medal for the first time ever. Amanda Borden (the team captain), Amy Chow, Dominique Dawes, Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Jaycie Phelps, and Kerri Strug. Amanda Borden was solid on floor and beam in the optionals and was a great team captain. Amy Chow with the "Chow2" wowed many fans on the uneven bars. She came home with an individual silver medal on the uneven bars. Dominique Dawes two time olympian came home with a bronze medal on the floor along with her gold team emdal. Shannon Miller is the most decorated american gymnast. She is a two time olympian and earned her gold medal on beam. She knew she could do it and did it well and came home with two gold medals. Dominique Moceanu was the baby of the team. 14 years old and did great coming home with a team medal and was fourth on the floor excercise. Jaycie Phelps had a hard time in the compulseries but did great in the optionals. Starting the team off on bars with a 9.787! Great start! Kerri Strug showed her strength and won the team gold medal while landing on a very badly sprung ankle. She got the score of a 9.712 and the team needed 9.700. The "Magnificent Seven" showed there strength and determenation and came home with the team gold medal.
