Gibbons Creek Reservoir
Gibbons was impounded in 1981 and was a spectical to see when it
opened. I can remember having to get reservations just to get on the
lake. When it opened they only allowed so many boats and if you didnt
have a reservation then it was tough luck. Gibbons was opened with a
slot of 14-21", but is now catch and release only. There is only one
boat ramp at the lake and it is 6 lanes with a dock nearby. Most of
gibbons is covered with timber so you have to be careful when
navigating in any of the creeks.
There is also a few pad fields and hydrilla to hold fish, so there is
no a lack of cover. The current lake record stands at 16.17 and was
caught in 1988. Gibbons is a power plant lake covering approx. 2500
surface acres. It offers great bass fishing year round, even during
the hot summer months when the schooling picks up. It is located
about 18 miles east of College Station off of Hwy 30. The carlos
store is located near the entrance and has food, beverages, ice and
gas available.
One other thing to remember is, gibbons is closed on wednesdays and
all holidays.
