THOMAS McHUGH
voice of Doug Funnie
Born and raised in northern suburban
Chicago, McHugh is the third of four
brothers. After graduating from the
American Academy of Dramatic Arts in
New York, he began doing voice-overs for
radio and television commercials. "I've
imitated sounds all my life," McHugh
explains, "and I'm an accent person. I'm
able to grab any regionalism, any dialect."
At the same time he has pursued a stage
career, with roles in numerous
off-Broadway productions including
"Destiny with Half Moon Street" and "Boy's
Life." He has performed extensively in New
York's premier one-act theater company,
the Ensemble Studio Theatre, and currently
stars in "Marathon '97," the company's 20th
anniversary celebration. McHugh appeared
in the feature films "George: A True Story"
and "Mad Dog Coll," which was shot in
Moscow. He has also voiced parts in
episodes of the animated television series
"Don Coyote" and "Gravedale High." For
his role as Doug Funnie, McHugh tries to
bring a "mixture of optimism and
acceptance -- Doug has the self-respect
and confidence that he can handle and
solve his problems, instead of feeling like a
victim."
When not at work, McHugh bikes around
Manhattan, writes plays, and takes
black-and-white photographs of people. As
a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and the
Bulls, McHugh laughingly claims he is "90%
scar tissue." He is also the proud owner of
a rescued cat named Fanny.
Connie Shulman
voice of Patti Mayonnaise
Connie brings warmth and vivacity to the
voice of Patti Mayonnaise, Doug's secret
heartthrob.
Brought up in east Tennessee in the middle
of a family of seven children, Connie
Shulman graduated from the University of
Tennessee with a B.A. in speech and
drama and studied acting at New York's
Circle in the Square for two years.
Shulman's first big break came in the
original off-Broadway hit production of
"Steel Magnolias," playing the part of
Annelle. She has also performed in a
variety of other off-Broadway and regional
theater productions.
Shulman's film credits include "He
Said/She Said," "McBain," "Men Don't
Leave," "Reversal of Fortune," "Lost
Angels," "Fried Green Tomatoes" and
"Weekend at Bernie's II." For television,
she has guest starred in "The Days &
Nights of Molly Dodd," ABC's "Loving,"
"Heavens to Betsey" for CBS, and "Lethal
Innocence," an American Playhouse
production for PBS. She starred in ABC's
"The Faculty" with Meredith Baxter.
Shulman loves cats, though highly allergic
to them, and going to auctions. She and her
family maintain a farmhouse in upstate New
York.
