Cinderella

In this re-telling of the classic fairy tale, Bernadette Peters is the wicked stepmother of Cinderella (played by Brandy). I thought this was a charming version of Cinderella, and I especially enjoyed seeing how interracial it is, with Cinderella being African American and the prince being Asian American. I hope that kids who see it will learn to look beyond color in relationships and friendships. I think that’s one thing that children and adults can really learn from this movie. Besides that, I thought the music was also very good, as well as all of the performances (which also include Whitney Houston, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jason Alexander). Bernadette was so adorable, even though she was supposed to be wicked and mean. I think that her fans will really enjoy watching this movie.

Impromptu

Let me start of by saying that I turned this movie off half way through. I just could not get into it. Maybe its because I’m not too fond of period pieces (with the exception of Louisa May Alcott and L.M Montgomery), or maybe it was just a bad movie. Although Bernadette was fun to watch, and the rest of the cast is just as talented, this film bored me to tears. It might be one of those movies in which you have to be really in the mood to enjoy it and frankly, I was just not in that mood. The movie revolves around love and rivalry and if you enjoy period movies or ones that move slowly with no major action, then you might enjoy this film. It features a good Bernadette performance, but the movie, as a whole just did not interest me.

The Jerk

This was the first Bernadette movie that I ever saw and as stupid as it may be, it’s one of my favorites! Steve Martin plays a very stupid man who leaves home to find himself and happens upon fame and fortune. Bernadette plays his girlfriend and she is so funny and cute! Her character doesn’t have a lot going on in her head, which is why I used to think that she was a bubble head in real life (I loved this film even before I knew anything about Bernadette). I’m glad that she isn’t like that in real life, but in the movie, she sure does play the part perfectly! If you enjoy wacky nonsense comedies, then you’ll probably enjoy this one!

Annie

This has always been a favorite musical of mine, from the time I was a child. The story of little orphan Annie is funny, sad, and uplifting all rolled into one movie. Bernadette Peters once again, plays a bubble head, probably because she's so good at it! Like The Jerk, I saw this movie before I even really knew who Bernadette was, but I've always enjoyed her character. She doesn't have a huge part, but she's still a joy to watch as always! Tim Curry and Carol Burnett are just as good. All three play very mean and greedy people, but they're still a lot of fun. Annie is definitely a movie everyone should watch, whether or not you're a Bernadette Peters fan!
