when writing an email, click on the ' To: ' , and the address
file will pop up !!
From: ZER0kelvin@webtv.net (( ZER0° KELVIN )) Re: Easy "Stuff"(TAB key)
editing a large file ?. use the TAB key to avoid scrolling
out.. also works in large email signature boxes ...
From: BBUSHEY@webtv.net (Bev Bushey) Re: Easy "Stuff" (Addresses )[another]
If you are writing to someone with a webtv addy, you don't
need to put the "@webtv.net" in the 'To" line. Just use their
user name! i.e. bbushey
From: cyber-junkie@webtv.net (cyber-junkie) Re: Easy "Stuff"(add music also!)
Another easy way is when you transload your midis. Transload them in one directory just for midis and when you want to change one all you need to do is change the ending like this
https://members.tripod.com/~whatever/midis/yourmid.mid
and just change the your mid to a new one. myothermid.mid So
if you
name your: midis midi1 midi2 midi 3 just for an example all
you would have to change is the number. :>)
From: Larry_1@webtv.net (Iceman) Re: Easy (Find Box Storage)
When you are Snuffling around the web and you want to save some addresses or bits of text till you "get home", Or if you want to transfer more than one "hot" site address to an E-Mail page to send to a friend, try this...
When you are on the page 1 of the pages that you need the
addresses of, instead of writing them down, hit your "goto"
and then "show current" then "cmd" "a" to hilight the address
and "cmd" "c" to copy it...now it is in your buffer...Go on to
the next site and when you get there, hit your "find"
key...paste the first address in the find box and hit
escape...now retrieve the current addy and scoot on to the
next and so on...
When you get to mail that letter, simply hit "find" and cmd-a
, cmd-x and cmd-v to paste them on your mail page...they will
be run together, but just rearrange the text and there you
have it....
Hope this helps...
From: aPirateLksat30@webtv.net Re: Easy "Stuff"(a neat trick)
Iam sure I wasnt the first to think of this and its not a html tip but here goes:
When surfing the net you often come across a site that has sooo many pics on it they wont EVER load....makes trying to view them a little hard. Just put the validater on a "F" key: http ://www.angelfire.com/il/jan33cop/validate.html
then when you get to a site like that hit that key and "view
images" (they will be listed by name and then you can see all
of 'em one by one. Just another use for this great tool.
From: dioxide@webtv.net (The Weave) Re: Easy "Stuff" (Load
time tips)
Hey, yall! Here are some tips to speed the load time of your pages and sigs...
(1) When using images, ALWAYS specify the height and width of the image. This is important... a browser reads like we do, from top to bottom. If you tell it to get an image and it doesn't know how big the picture is, it has to wait to get the picture and display it first (so it will know how much space the picture takes up) before it can render the rest of your markup, which takes extra time. If you include height and width, it reserves that space and then continues loading in the rest of the markup while it is getting the specified picture.
Example:
<IMG SRC="coolpic.gif" HEIGHT="100" WIDTH="100">
(2) Think about image size (bytes). The more bytes the pic (or sound, for that matter), the longer the load time. If you are in love with that picture of Bugs Bunny and want to have it, but the 72000 bytes just take too long to load, consider taking the image to NetMechanics Gif Bot, or another image optimization service. What they do is reduce the file size (bytes, not height and width). You will have to transload the reduced image to your homepage. The Mallrats help page has a tutorial on the Gif Bot. Also, The JumpStation (link below) has an autosubmit to Gif Bot, as well.
(3) Never autostart ram audio files. The best thing is to use a text link (with a warning!!!). Ram files will lock up a classic box, and plusses have problems with them, too. It is unfia to throw a ram file at somebody when you know that they cause harm to others. Many newsgroups (this one included) alert others to ram files, with the end result in nobody reading your posts. <> Example:
<A HREF="coolramfile.ram"Ram file 4 u</A>
(4) When wanting clickable links to sound files (especially in your sig) don't use <EMBED>... especially if you want more than one. I know it produes a cool speaker and you have to click it to get it to play, but also keep in mind that if you embed that file, the person is going to download it into their box wether they want to or not. I have seen instances of somebody using embed to put six speakers onto a sig all connected to 100K+ sound files and couldn't understand why their sig took so long to load... Because all the sounds were being downloaded, irregardles of wether the links were activated or not.
Test this... click an embeded sound files speaker... plays right away, don't it??? As an alternative to <EMBED>, try:
<A HREF="coolsound.wav">Click here for a cool wav</A>
Or if you want it to use a pic:
<A HREF="coolsound.wav"><IMG SRC="coolpic.gif" HEIGHT="50" WIDTH="50"></A>
(5) As discussed before... a sig or homepage is rendered from
top to bottom. If you put your sound first... you wait on them
before anything else is rendered. Put your sounds as the LAST
part of your markup. That way the visual portions of your page
will all be rendered and someone can be reading your "pearls
of wisdom" while waiting on your Van Halen midi to load.
These tips will all help speed the download time for your
pages and sigs.
I hope this helps!
From: aPirateLksat30@webtv.net Re: Easy "Stuff"(shortcut)
Here's one I only recently found out....
if you have a home page and wanna put your transloaded images on a page you dont have to write out your whole address on them like this:
<IMG
src="http://www.geocities.com:80/MotorCity/Factory/3968/drag1.
gif"> especialy with Geocities thats alot of writting!
all you gotta write is <IMG src="drag1.gif">
this only works if the image is in the file directory as the
page your working on.
From: Angelgirl39@webtv.net (Angel) Re: Easy "Stuff" (more)
Here is another nice editing tool.
When you press the "find" key, and type in one or two words,
then hit enter, and it will take you to the first place that
the word(s) appears in the document,
In order to get to the second appearance of that word, simply
press the cmd key and the G key simultaneously. Press cmd+G
again, and you'll get the third appearance, and so on. You can
"jump" around the document easily that way.
I'm still a newbie too, and this group has been absolutely
wonderful. My best advice is that you should never be too shy
to ask for advice and help. These folks are awesome!

From: keyplyr@webtv.net Re: Easy "Stuff" (more)
While adding edits to a page full of the same thing ( like a
long list of MIDI files) to save time typing in the same addy
each time, I copy it into
the browser.
When there are, for exmple, multiple <a href tags, and I wish to CC&P a particular one....I type an arbitrary character,
like a " 1 " in front of the text to be copied and remove it
later.
