I.S. Mission Statement

 

    The International Studies Program at Independence High School will offer students a broad concept of citizenship, embracing both the nation and the world in which they live.  This interdisciplinary program will provide a foundation of knowledge as well as opportunities for creative thinking and problem-solving in the following areas.

    Program Goals

    Students Will

    learn to recognize the interconnections between one's own life, one's society, and major global concerns such as environment, population, resources, and human rights - and how these interconnections affect our future options and choices.

    accept and value others, recognizing individual and cultural similarities, differences, and contributions.

    develop an awareness of how perceptions differ among individuals and between groups

    understand current world conditions and developments, including emergent global trends.

    develop and use problem-solving, creative thinking, critical thinking, and reasoning skills.

    use decision-making processes in a changing society.

    become increasingly responsible for their own learning.
