Gone

By John Isaac Elm

Something died tonite
Courageous and Worn
In one last desperate attempt to make things right

What died in my room tonite was every last bit of compassion and faith that lingered in my musty soul
In their place is nothingness
Black
Empty
Hollow man that I am
The fires of thrillful want that blazed so long and high in your eyes and mine
have been extinguished
In a split second
That’s all it took
Colors, Love, and Hope brought to an end all too soon
Eternal is my fight against this curse
Of failure I’ve proved over and over
To be painfully true
No matter how right you are you’re still wrong
There’s nothing you can do
You will fail
As I have
Time and time again
