The tour supporting SWW lasted so long that it was 1988 before a following album was released. The big question was how? Jon didn't want to release 'Slippery When Wet Part 2' but something that was to be bigger and better. But how. Madonna couldn't do it, nor could the Rolling Stones. The result was New Jersey.
In my opinion this is the best BJ album. The tracks are varied, the lyrics exceptional, the guitar brilliant. From the introduction of Lay Your Hands On Me you know this album will be good. There are less hits than SWW, but it doesn't matter. Only Lay Your Hands, Bad Medicine (an excellent track, possibly the Jovi's best) and I'll Be There For You are played live anymore, which is a shame.
Love For Sale, Born To Be My Baby reflect Jon's changing writing style and attituides. Along with some of the others. The boys are no longer a rock band. They have written some classy melodies as well. As with SWW, New Jersey was followed by an exhausting tour, ending in 1990

Jon had intended New Jersey to be a double album. However Polygram would not let him and New Jersey was released as a single CD/LP/Tape album. However enough material was written for a double album. Again the tracks were released as B-sides and on bootleg CD's, most notably Hidden Treasures. Let's Make It Baby was included on a limited edition Bonus CD released in the UK with These Days. Only 500,000 were made. Drive was released as a B-Side on JBJ's solo Midnight In Chelsea CD Single
