MAY POLE CENTERPIECE

MATERIALS

box about 1" high, about 6"square
1/2" diameter dowel, about 12" long
6 different colors pastel ribbon about 1/4" wide, 2 feet long each
6 small bunches artificial flowers to coordinate with ribbons
1 garland of small flowers to twine around dowel
white and green acrylic paint, glue, scissors

STEP BY STEP

1. Paint dowel white and box lid green to simulate grass. Cut a hole in the
box lid just big enough to fit dowel into snugly.

2.With lid on box, force dowel in hole and glue to bottom of box. Wind garland
around dowel and glue in place top and bottom.

3.Bunch ribbons together and tie about 3" from one end. Drape knot over top of
dowel and glue in place.

4.Glue one single flower of matching color to each short ribbon end. Arrange
long ribbon ends around pole on "grass" and glue in position along with a
bunch of matching flowers."NOTE" In the original 1907 version of this
centerpiece, small dolls were dressed in pastels to match ribbons and flowers
and were arranged around base of Maypole as if they were performing the Maypole
dance.
