Fushigi Yuugi Shrine
Fushigi Yuugi "mysterious play" consists of a 52 episode television
series and two
3 episode OAV series. The manga is eighteen books
long and divided into two sections.
Parts 1-13 are similar to the TV
series; parts 14-18 run a different path.
The story starts off when a 15-year-old girl named Miaka Yuuki
(voice actress Araki Kae- also voice of Chibi Usa and Usagi
{episodes 44-50}) and her best friend, Yui Hongo, go to the library
after school. There, they find a mysterious book in a forbidden room
in the library, titled The Universe of the Four Gods
"Si shen tian di shu". Upon opening the book, the
girls find a strange incantation, which they recite aloud. Suddenly, the girls are transported to ancient China,
which is divided into 4
territories:
Hokkan: in the northern region; its god is Genbu,
the Green Turtle
Konan: in the southern region; its god is Suzaku,
the Red Peacock
Kutou: in the eastern region; its god is Seiryuu,
the Blue Dragon
Sairo: in the western region; its god is Byakko,
the White Tiger
Miaka and Yui find themselves surrounded by a group of bandits, but
Tamahome my hero! appears and
rescues them. Miaka later finds out that she is to be the Suzaku no
Miko, the priestess of the Konan country. It is her mission to find
her 7 seishi. When she does, and recites a certain incantation, she
will be able to call upon Suzaku, the god of the southern region, and
will be granted three wishes. Yui's jealousy of Miaka makes her feel
that Miaka has betrayed her, so she is easily persuaded by Nakago,
a general of the Kutou country, to become Seiryuu no Miko... thereby
becoming Miaka's sworn enemy.
From there the story unfolds..........
