Chapter 4

Castle o Drach

He glanced into his globe with urgent eyes. Tüll felt his gnaw fingers grow tingly with the magic he possessed. The Key was out there, he knew this. Then, Tüll glanced back at the slumbering, sickly yellow dragon on the cobble floor of his dreary chambers. Agaarr, Dragon of Sickness, Plagues, and Pestilence was his right-hand wyrm. Yet, he did not trust the beast that controlled the dragons. He did not even trust the dragons themselves. Yet, Tüll needed the great, magical, long-lived beasts. He sighed at the thought of him needing Agaarr. Agaarr could cast a 100-foot radius plague, which gained him the authority over his brethren. Tüll needed that advantage over his enemies. It was a shaky alliance, Tüll admitted to himself. It was too shaky and unpredictable. The dragons were the best allies that Tüll ever in listed among the evil creatures of Kaül. They were the smarter than Orcs or trolls. They were stronger than the human slaves and the giants, and they could fly and cast spells. He gazed into his globe once more, following the traces of the Dragon Key’s magic. Once he had that power, he could go anywhere and do anything. His power would increase ten-fold and all of Kaül will tremble to its knees. Tüll smiled wickedly as the thought of becoming emperor of Kaül. He controlled much of the lands around Drach. He owned the volcano pits of Bligurah, the Wastelands of Dar-logath and the Trino Mountains.

Tüll realized that all of lands he owned; this was not enough to satisfy his growing greed for power. He needed more than what he had. He gazed at the globe with tired eyes. Then, it lit up in a myriad of colors, a beacon from the Dragon Key.

"Agaarr!" cried Tüll. He swung his head back at the dragon. "Agaarr! Wake up! I have it. The Dragon Key has been activated! The universe is ours!"
"Master?" the sleepy dragon grumbled. "Shall I alert the other dragons of this news?"

"Not yet, my pet," hissed the wizard. "Keep this to ourselves, for now."

"Of course," Agaarr lifted himself off the hard, cold floor and lumbered out of the chamber. He stretched his leathery wings and growled. Then, Agaarr glanced back at his master and grinned devilishly. The alliance will soon end. He mentally added: I shall be the one who holds the Dragon Key. All of Kaül shall tremble before me! Tüll, you are an old fool. We dragons are greater than you are. I am certain of this fact. We will not follow you any longer, my slow-witted master.

He broke off from his thoughts to laugh deep within his throat. Agaarr turned and started down a dark, damp passage to his lair. For a moment, he heard a sound of dragon wings rustling as he walked down to his home. A green dragon spied on him. Shal-ram, Dragon of the Green Flame, watched the sickly colored beast slither down to his privet quarters deep in the heart of Castle o Drach. Shal-ram, a human rationalist, eyed the dragon with hatred.

We are lost if we stay within the leadership of Tüll, thought Shal-ram. Agaarr wishes to do us in as he tries to betray the wizard. My brethren are slaves like the humans who live and toil here. An alliance must be made between our two species. The Dragon Key will help us. Tüll knows where it is. I must have that information. Where would I find it?

Shal-ram backed off from the corridor and quickly trotted out. He saw the ideas of becoming allies to the humans a little bizarre, but in any case, it must be wagered. He looked back at the wizard and saw a vision from within the globe. A boy appeared, holding the magical Key in his hand. Shal-ram blinked in confusion, knowing inside that the location of this human boy was unfamiliar to him. He searched for a spell inside his mind to zoom in on the boy’s face. Then, the vision came close to the emerald colored dragon. The location was still unfamiliar, which discouraged and distraught the dragon more. He ducked back into the shadows, only his burning, orange eyes were visible from with in the passage. Shal-ram made a mental imprint of the human’s facial features. Then, with another spell, the dragon faded from sight completely.

He will find this boy at all costs. Shal-ram knew that this human’s life was in danger.
