Very Expensive Problems

My car is back on the road. Total damage cause by oil surge comes to about £4000.00.

New parts:- Oil Pump Uprated Nissan crank (toughened) the standard crank is forged steel with rolled fillets I couldn't get a billet crank that was guaranteed to fit. JUN billet H-Sections conrods (SVS) TOMEI head gasket (old one knackered when head came off to remove the pistons) NISMO bearing set.

The labour charge for this lot is about £1200.00. It takes over 5 hour just to remove the manifold and turbo. The reason for this disaster was low oil pressure caused by surging inthe sump. Basically the pump can't pick up oil if it's all stuck at one endof the sump, during heavy cornering. As a remedy for this in the future I am fitting an ACCUSUMP kit. This is a large cylinder with a piston in it of about 2 litres volume. Oil from the engine is reserved in the cylinder under pressure making the oilcapacity 6.5 litres instead of 4.5 litres. When a low oil pressure is present the ACCUSUMP releases its pressurised oil until pump pressure returns to normal.Hence no surge trouble. This kit also provide instant oil pressure at start up which reduceswear as well as being able to provide shut down oil to cool the bearings inyour turbo. All great value at about £400.00.This engine should now be bullet proof. My next planned mods when budget allows are :-TAROX or BREMBO 4pot callipers and 330mm front brakes. I don't like theway that uprated pads don't work from cold. I've found that EBC are just as bad as all the others so bigger disc's seem the only solution.Larger injectors 550cc TOMEI or JUN from SVS. Bigger Bosch fuel pump.HKS vein pressure converter. This will eliminate the air flow meter andallows adjustment of the signal to the ECU. So it should allow adjustment for the larger injectors. If this won't work I think I'll get a MOTEC M4. With all this lot fitted I should see 450 to 500 BHP and probably breakthe gearbox.

The car is a holomogation, i think, it has a roll cage and no>luxuries such as electric windows, air-conditioning or even the umbrella>holder !!. I knew when i bought the car that it had been rallyed or the like,>and it was bit of a chance buying it but it had so many little extras that>are so expensive here, that i couldn't say no. What a mistake that was but>it's almost finished now after 4 months, yes 4 months without my baby!!.

Well it goes something like this, the car had been raced alot at tracks and sprints, then i got hold of it and was going like a bat out of hell on full boost about 1 bar for about 1 to 2 minutes i then hit the motorway and cruised homeat about 80mph.I came off the motorway and was driving steadily home when huge amounts of white smoke came out the exhaust and then i had no power, it was as if somebody had replaced the engine with a 1 litre and no turbo!! I then did a compression check and got nothing out of number 1 cylinder. My friend then had the task of taking the head of and then discovered the piston was shot.Nevermind hey !! When i was rebuilding the engine i replaced the turbo with a re-con hybrid which should easily hold 1 bar without a problem. I also replaced the head gasket with a race spec Tomei from SVS. Tim is a really nice guy plus he's only about 5 minutes down the road. I thought about modifing the engine internally but it costs so much like £1500.00 for forgedpistons alone !!. As far as costs go I'M BROKE well almost ! Around£5000.00

It cost so much because its Japanese !! Iit was 1900 for the shortengine,a full weeks work around 1600, i had to buy timing chain, turbo, full enginegasket set, oil pump, oil strainer loads of other little bits which all add up. The oil pump cost alone £450.00 which i almost had a heart attackover.Your right it was its previous life that f*cked it !. My friend John who has done the work said that the fly wheel was completley out which meant it had been sitting at the start line getting its b*ll*cks revved off. It was extremely quick when i had it and i hope that was running rough, it should be quicker and smoother when i get it back
