Nintendo's Position

While many people bash Nintendo and go for PSX, Nintendo almost received the PSX. Really. If you check back in one of the 1993 issues of Nintendo Power, you'll see what is now the PSX. Back then, it was called the "SNES CD ROM". It was going to be an add-on to the SNES, and was going to feature graphics on what the PSX could do now.

Nintendo literally shot themselves in their foot......

Nintendo and Sony control the market now. What about Sega? When it comes in with it's PC-like system, the Dreamcast, what will happen? Personally, I do not think it will do that well. Sega should've stayed in the arcades. It produced more systems than Nintendo has, but there's a difference - Sega's systems generally have a short software-support life span.

I think Nintendo is wisening up and focusing on the N64's software because they know that their N64 followers will continue on and buy their next generation system. If Nintendo leveled off software support, the N64 might end up like the Saturn.

Back to N64...

The N64 basically contains a..

-64 BIT RISC CPU (customized R4000 series)

-CPU Clock speed of 93.75 MHz (Faster then my comp, in fact!)

-Rambus D-RAM [36 Mbit (which is 4 megs of computer RAM)]

-62.5 MHz Co-Processor Clock Speed (vs my comps, 50..)

The N64 is also more advanced then the PSX is, hardware wise. It uses real-time rendering and anti-aliasing graphics (which means it can look up and load code - graphics - much faster).

Here's the jeopardized 64DD. It seems that Japan will almost postively receive this system , but it's still up in the air if Europe or the USA will get it. Are you willing to pay $100 for an add-on hardware? Do you remember what happened to Sega's 32X?
