Volume -1 | Summer 1998 | Fourth Issue |
It's All New(s) To You | High Definition - It's Here | New Products? |
This is the Fourth News Letter. I hate to say it, but I didn't receive a lot of comments on my first or second one. I did receive a few on my Third News Letter. And I believe there was some room for comments and suggestions. I can tell you that we are doing fairly well as a site, considering we have only been on line since the 18th of March. (So if you see the counter on the front, remember that it's only been a short while since we started!). We have added the new Video Terms section, which provides answers to those questions of what does JPEG or MPEG mean. We have added the BSC1-F1 section for the Film Look Gamma Curve chips for the DVW700 series from Sony. It includes theory and setup information on the "Film Look." And I have added a Basic Setup section for those of us that have our analog cameras still. Great section to check out some specialized looks for your camera, and get some suggestions for making your own special look. Take some time to check us ALL out, and , if you want, provide any comments in the NEW Comments section we have added. Nice little place to give us some suggestions or comments or even any insight on our subjects you might have. All we can do is grow and provide you with more information! Please note that some of the pages may take a little longer to load. I have changed some of the HTML code and Java Script to make the pages a little more attractive and fun to use. Hopefully I have corrected/hidden the Java Script for those of you that don't support Java Script. Please be patient during loading, as the end results is better than before. | High Definition products are somewhat the rage at the moment. I have finally worked with one of these products recently. I finally checked out the Sony HDW700 High Def cam/corder unit. It appears that this is the way of the future. It appears that Plus 8 Video has about 3 or 4 of these now. Laser Pacific now has a full High Def edit suite on line as does American Film/Video of Seattle. KCTS, the PBS Station in Seattle, is already shooting their productions with the HDW700. The film to tape transfers to High Def are currently in high gear also. It appears that the advent of the Advanced Television signal is upon us! To compliment this, I have also heard that some of the Japanese consumer companies have begun delivery or manufacture of their consumer High Def televisions. I guess it's time to get on the band wagon, and make a format decision for the future. | Some new products I have seen recently are the HDW700 High Definition Camera Recorder from Sony, along with their new HDC750 hand held camera. (I have been visiting the rental houses, and it seems that many already have these products.) This also includes the newer High Def monitors from Sony, Panasonic and other manufacturers. Many manufacturers have made a 20 inch version to fit in the racks along the other broadcast monitors. There have also been some additions to the professional line of products for some manufacturers with dedicated Wide Screen versions of their cameras. I believe the future will be divided between 16X9 and High Definition origination of productions. |

Comments Section | |
If you would like to have a link with this page, please write me. | As this is the Fourth issue, I had hoped for some actual comments from the readers.... I can't say I've had that many comments yet. I believe it's only been one or two so far. Don't feel shy, please visit our new Comment Section, fill out the form and send me any feelings, comments, or suggestions you have. There is room here for many, many more pages. I am looking for suggestions as to what the other pages might have on them. We have room for a section on Job Openings, custom camera setups, user information and so on. So, don't hesitate to send your comments! I promise I will read all the comments and mail. I will also respond as soon as I possibly can. Thanks for reading!
News/Production Formats |
Comments to: Camera Dave
Sony is promoting their SX Digital Betacam format and the DV-Cam format, Panasonic is pushing it's DVC-Pro format and JVC is selling it's Digital S format. Is this a "format war?" Both Panasonic and Sony have brough out newer version of the DV-Cam and DVC-Pro formats. Both look very nice in their demonstrations, but I am reserving my opinion for the moment. I can't tell how sturdy these units will be for the long run, and for News work. And what about Production formats? Is the 1/2 inch digital Hi Def format the choice for the future or can one use 16:9 Digital Betacam? One of the hints I have heard is that some of the networks are requesting Hi Def production now. And, if you produce in Hi Def now, it can be converted to standard 525 or 525 16:9 very easily. Only time will tell which is the way of the future.... I will respect anyone else's opinion, and I will print it in these pages as part of the comments section if you would like. | Looks If you have any specialized "looks" or setups for your Broadcast or Professional camera you would like to share with everyone, I would like to put them in the Basic Setups Section of the site. I have a couple now, but I would love to have several more! Please mail them to me. I may even open up another section of users special looks for various cameras. So send me the special setup you use and we will make it available to all that read our pages!
