The Dr. Jesse Jay Jenkins, Jr. Camp Mar-Mac Memorial Scholarship was initiated in 1996 by the Camp Mar-Mac Board of Directors to honor Dr. Jenkins for his significant contributions to the Revitalization of Camp Mar-Mac Project in the early 1990's. A 4-H'er and camper at Camp Mar-Mac as a child and a skilled woodworker as an adult, Dr. Jenkins built and donated five beautiful totem poles to Camp Mar-Mac, which will always stand as a tribute to him and provide for all 4-H'ers a wonderful example of service. He provided many other things we needed at that time including moral support to pursue the daunting revitalization task before us.Dr. Jenkins was a widely respected and admired man in Marion County and was a pillar in the medical community, practicing medicine here for over thirty years. The full camp scholarship to Camp Mar-Mac is awarded annually at the Marion County 4-H Camp closing awards ceremony during Friday night Council Circle to a 4-H camper who exemplifies a love for 4-H camping and demonstrates an interest in maintaining Camp Mar-Mac for the future.
