Song: Whispering Hope

In Memory Of My Mother

BERNICE OPAL BEAUCHAMP (BRYANT)
1904 - 1985

Mom was born Oct 2, 1904 at Selden, Kansas the 2nd child of Melvin Bryant & Alice Adelaide Andrews. She went to school in Hoisington, KS her first 3 yrs. Then the family moved to Weskan, Wallace Co., Kansas. It was here that her mother, Alice, died several weeks after giving birth to her brother, Marion. At the time of her Mother's death, Flossie her older sister was 14, Mom,12, Lyle, her younger bother was 9, and Myrna, 3.

Grandpa Bryant felt that it would be unfair for the two older girls to have the responsibility of raising a baby, so little Marion was adopted by Emma Warner, sister of Alice Andrews Bryant.

Her Dad, Melvin, went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad and was transferred to Kansas City, Wyndotte Co., KS about 1920. Actually the place where they lived was outside the city limits. It was a small farm where Grandpa raised a large garden and had cherry trees in the front yard.

Mom went to Wyndotte High School and this is where she met my Father, Preston Earl Beauchamp. (This story can be read using the Beauchamp Link, on home page)

She was a loving wife, Mother, & homemaker. Cub Scout Leader, Brownie & Girl Scout Leader, she was active in my older brother and my school activities. She was always the 1st to volenteer her services for whatever activities we were involved in. Our home was always open to our friends and they all congregated there. She loved to sew and made most of my cloths. And they were much lovelier than store-bought. Gardening was another of her activities, and her rose bushes were her favorite.

She was my Mother, and Mom, I still miss you.

THE DAY GOD CALLED YOU HOME

God looked around his Garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon His earth and saw your loving face.
He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest.
His Garden must be beautiful, he always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain.
And knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw your path was difficult, he closed your tired eyes,
He whispered to you "Peace be Thine" and gave you wings to fly.

When we saw you sleeping so calm and free of pain,
We would not wish you back to earth to suffer once again.
You've left us precious memories, your love will be our guide,
You live on through your children, you're always by our side.

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you on the day God called you home.
