I say "HOG WASH!"
Those emails will float around out there
until someone deletes them. If you signed
it, don't worry, the world will see that
you say you are a christian who wants
prayer put back into our public schools.
Not only does it have your name on it
(first AND last), it has your age (in case
someone is looking for a 19 year old female)
AND the city you live in (in case someone
wants a 19 year old female from YOUR CITY!).
Grab your phone book, look up your last
name. SURPRISE! The internet has yellow
pages and white pages and Whoswhere.
Now, that particular someone knows your
age, address, email address, AND phone number!
Not only are you circulating your information,
but do you REALLY believe that our
friendly, eager-to-please government will
jump through hoops to reinstate prayer in
public schools? Please, THINK ABOUT IT!
IF they get the email, what do you think
they will do with it? (if they don't
delete it) READ IT? Check out all those
names? I'm sure someome will appoint a
committee and jump right on it! SURE!
Do you REALLY think it would get passed?
Even if by some miricle it did, it would
be in a specific context. WHO would
they permit to pray? Just christians?
jews? mormans? buddist? islamics?
atheists? If christians can openly pray
in public school, why can't other religions?
Imagine for a minute that it is AFTER the
vote and you rejoice while you are driving
your young children to public school.
It's the first day of prayer in school
so you decide to stick around and see
how it goes. The teacher announces
that the computer randomly selected
the order in which prayers are to be said.
You are now aware of other parents who
have gathered around to witness this
wonderful event. An office helper is
handing everyone a paper. You accept
the one she offers you. You glance at
the paper. There is a list of religions
with a number beside EACH ONE! You
begin to feel weak, your stomach does a
double back-flip and your knees feel
like jelly! Your eyes run down the
list while your heart pounds. A catholic
prayer, a baptist prayer, a moslem
prayer, a cherokee prayer, an atheist
prayer, and on and on and on. The
prayer you fought for MIGHT be said
twice! Your children are standing in
the classroom repeating words you would
rather they didn't hear, much less say!
I think we better be careful what we
ask for, or we just might get it!
I had children who prayed in school
even after prayer was removed. My
grandchildren are praying in school.
I went to college for five years and I
prayed almost every day I was there!
About five minutes before class I asked
for guidence and the ability to learn
what was being taught. When the test
papers were being passed out, I
prayed EXTRA hard.
As long as I can think,
I WILL be allowed to pray!
I might not be allowed to kneel,
but I can still pray!
I might not be allowed to whisper,
but i can STILL pray!
If you want your children or grandchildren
to pray aloud in school, put them in a
private school. There are many private
schools out there where your children can
get the religious training of your choice!
Can't find a private school you like?
Home-school! That way, you know what
they are being taught and you can spend
as much time as you want teaching them
the prayers you want them to say. If you,
as a parent, take the responsibility
of teaching your children about prayers
and praying, your children will be better
educated than if you permit the public
schools teach them how to regurgitate
the words to the Lords Prayer!
