My Name is Asher Lev Journal 4

That one picture of Satlin opened up all of Asher's artistic abilities once again. It was as if it had been bottled inside of him and suddenly just burst out of him. It almost became an implusive habit. When he drew Stalin he would draw him over and over again changing all the different values of the picture. That really puzzels me because I do not see the point of it. Why would he do that? My best interpretation is that his trying to expanf his drawing his drawing skills. Also once tje gift came back he started seeing things around him in a totally different light. That one night at dinner Asher didnt see his father in a flat image but as a three dimsional one. He was looking at his father on many point of the plane. I am predicting that in the future Asher will finally draw his father. He almost fears to draw his father because of the fear that his father would turn the picture down. Areyah does not understand the meaning these drawings have on Asher.

The picture of the boy and the girl walking together was symbolic of Asher's needs. When his mother saw the drawing she knew immediately what Asher was thinking. A little brother or sister would give someone for Asher to play with and have them look up to him. He feels left out being so young and having no one his age, because he is around adults all of the time. That could be a big reason for his mature reasoning, but also his desire to stay. He has never left the neighborbood and is not prepared for that kind of culture shock. I have two predictions of why he does not want to go to Austeria. He is either being fearful of a change or foretelling a disaster that is planned to happen there. I feel mainly that he is afraid to go to Austria in fear that it will somehow prove to be like the dreaded place of Siberia.

Asher's talent was finally realized by everyone. His father realized it and told Asher of the doubts it held. He lead Asher into indescion between whether or not he recieved his gift from the Ribbono Shel Olom or the Other Side. He sees the Other Shows his talent as silly and foolish, but if it is from the Ribbono Shel Olom it will prove to be a godly gift that will prove welll to him in his future. This explanation scared Asher because he was unable to to tell where the gift came from. That lead to a dream where he was faced against the darkness and evil of the ancestor. In a way Asher's dream could be foretelling the future of the book. Heis drawings may lead him in the wrong direction, and he must use his strength and religon to fight againt them
