My Name is Asher Lev Journal 6

Throughout this chapter Asher expirences a complete shift with the relantionship he has with his father. During the first year if Areyah's absence in the household, Asher began to draw his father for the first time. All throughout his life he had avidly draw his mother, but was almost ashamed that he has never drawn his ftaher. Asher sensed his absence, leaving him with a slight void. It eas the first time Asher perceived his father in a new way, inspiring him to draw. he said twice that during his father's absence he has never felt so close to his father as he did at that moment. That could be so because he began to see his father's faults and payed closer attentuin to what he has done for the Jewish people. Once his fatjer came home all of the tables were turned. Areyah arrived in a fit of rage at the knowledge that his son was drawing Jesus and nude pictures, and continuall failing to study his schoolwork. His father took most of his anger out on Rivekah because she was the only one that would stand up to him. I am not sure why Asher's mother encouraged his drawing so much. His father obvisouly dislikes it as shown in the way he makes Asher out to be an evil son. When he wished for Asher to never be born that was the creulist thing I have ever heard a father say. Those few words demolished any steady relantionship between Asher and his ftaher, That in turn he may have led Rivekah to hold a greater passion for her son. In a way she may have wanted him to expirence a new world because she could have felt trapped in the life of a Hassidic Jew.

Asher;s father's screaming and tournmenting of his mother finally caused Asher to turnaround his schoolwork. He started to balance his time between drawing and schoolwork and his grades started to improve. This could be partly due to his grwoing up and maturing, but the main reason is that he does not want his father argueing with his mother and more. He has stronger feelings for her than him, and he can't bear to see his mother in pain. His love shows.

The museam opened Asher up to a whole new world that he has never seen before in his closed up community. He was able to expirenece other artists, and work and learn from them. This was the act that tipped his father over the edge. Areyah has lived in a naive little community and can not respect or see anyone else's opinions. He wants everything to be perfect and go his way, and when it does not happen he becomes outraged. Throughout the chapter I have started to lose respect for him because of his narrow-minded attitude. Him trying to hold Asher away form the world will eventually cause a rebellion on Asher's part.
