Click on an underlined listing below to go to the web site for that company. Because you'll be leaving my web site, be sure to bookmark this page or my home page, so you can get back here easily.

If you live in or near Connecticut, visit Vinnie and Sue Audette at Water Works in Mansfield Connecticut. It's where I buy my boats and accessories. They know kayaking and canoeing, and the prices are right. Sue knows so much about paddling that she is the author of the recently released book "The Old Town Canoe Company, Our First Hundred Years."

If you forget something, stop at L.L. Bean in Freeport, Maine. It's an experience. It's open twenty-four hours a day everyday but Christmas. It's huge, but busy. It carries all sorts of clothing and equipment for outdoor recreational activities.

If you get almost here, and you still need some kayaking gear, try Cadillac Mountain Sports. There's one in Ellsworth which you'll have to pass through on the way to Bar Harbor, and another in Bar Harbor. The Ellsworth store carries more kayaking gear than the Bar Harbor one. Like any resort area, they'll be a little more expensive than other stores. I don't know of a web site for them.

Here are a few mail order places that handle kayaking equipment and supplies. They all have catalogs available.

If you're in the market for something electronic like a marine VHF radio or a GPS, here are two stores where I've purchased items. Both have catalogs and are reasonably priced. Hamilton Marine is located in Searsport, Maine which you may pass through on your way to Bar Harbor. Both companies cater to boaters who go to sea, but they carry some safety supplies that kayakers need.

Lodging and Local Activities

The Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce has a great booklet available which is loaded with information about lodging and activities. I assume it will have prices in it like it has in other years. Call or e-mail and request one.
