This is a VERY brief introduction to pop ups and what they can do to enhance your irc chats ... First and foremost, pop ups are best used with the chat client mIRC for Windows 95 - if you dont have it go to www.mirc.co.uk and download it NOW ... its the best there is out there ... I know very little about pop ups for Pirch ... but these may be compatible. PopUps are basically used as "shortcuts" so that you do not have to type the same things (warnings, greetings, hugs, kicks, etc.) over and over again ... They are added into the mIRC programme and are quite useful for everyday chat. The pop ups I will be showing you are to be used mainly for greeting people and they are a collection of greetings for friends, lovers, and people in the channel. Popups can get very intense and colourful (thats why you need mIRC to see them - it translates code into colourful letters and symbols) and they CAN get annoying when they are multiple line greeetings - the pop ups here are never over 4 lines, and most are limited to one or two.. You need to add them into the mIRC programme by cutting and pasting them... You cut and paste them into your nicklist pop up file which is located by going to the button which says PopUp Menus (7th from the left at the top of your screen) .. This will open up the actual script that runs mIRC - from there you need to go to the View pull down and select NickList (or Query if you would like personal message pop ups) ... to the right of the View pulldown is PopUp and you can use this to navigate within the nicklist pop ups and decide on where you would like to place your pop ups ... You then cut and paste you pop ups directly into your nicklist popups script .. but the most important thing to remember is the way pop ups are put together in the script: . <----- the period before the pop ups tells you it is one level (or two levels (..) or whatever in ... if you do not want a pop up in a level then dont put a period before the pop up - an example of levels - say you wanted pop ups about love... you would cut and paste the following: Love .whatever the pop up is (Love would then be the title of the section and you would get all your love pop ups grouped together on the next level) the second thing in a pop up is the pop up name and then a colon: Love .Love1: and then the pop up the third thing is the pop up itself: Love .Love1:/me says I love you $$1 When you are done you hit OK at the bottom ... and youre ready to hug someone with colours! You go to a channel, highlight a nickname, and you will see in your pop ups a variety of choices - pick one and youve just hugged someone! The final thing I guess I should address in this Intro is how do you make pop ups yourself? Well, its quite easy actually - and rather absorbing once you get the hang of it - but I would suggest you read your mIRC help files for a fully detailed lesson on how to create pop ups ... suffice to say these are some small pointers: Control-K and a numer and then text (or a design) creates coloured text - if you have mIRC 5.31 (and you should its great) whenever you type Control-K a tiny box will pop up showing you the number and the corresponding colour - here they are if youre lazy: 1 - Black, 2 - Dark Blue, 3 - Dark Green, 4 - Red, 5 - Brown, 6 - Purple, 7 - Orange, 8 - Yellow, 9 - Light Green, 10 - Aqua, 11 - Light Blue, 12 - Blue, 13 - Pink, 14 - Dark Grey, 15 - White. When you type Control-K you will see a small box - that is the code for colour - you type the number you wish your text or design to be immediately after wards. If you would like background colour as well as text colour you do this by typing two numbers: Control-K 8,10 will give you yellow text with an aqua background - it will look like this: 8,10 text. If you do not close the section with another Control-K the choice of aqua will remain your background for the entire pop up. Look at the pop ups included in this zip file to understand how these are used ... you will get the hang of it! There are a couple other codes you can use: Control-U for underlining and Control-B for boldface for example ... read your help files to learn more :oP If you would like your design to incorporate someones nickname (as in a hug where you surround someones nick with pretty patterns or colours) you need to put the following into the pop up: $$1 - that tells mirc that whomever youre highlighting becomes $$1 and gets slotted into position. You must also preface your hug with either /say or /me - and if its going directly into the popup section of you nicklist it needs to be given a name suce as .HUGS: so a hug within the mirc pop up nicklist would look like this in code: .HUGS:/me 8,10 HUGS 9,6 $$1 8,10 HUGS - its pretty easy isnt it? (The . represents one level in - I usually have PopUps on one line and then the hugs . or even .. levels in - you can understand this by actually seeing how it works) These PopUps are part of §¡ÐêWiñÐêR VêR 1.2 þ®ð êÐïtïðñ by STEPPA - in my opinion the best script for mIRC there is If you need help or have questions come see us on irc.ichat.com #chatzone Catty and STEPPA
