Boil for 5 minutes or until dissolved:
  1 cup sugar
  2/3 cup honey
  1/3 cup shortening (try using butter)

Let cool.

Beat 1 egg (try two eggs)
Add 1/3 cup (or 1/2 cup) water to it.

Sift:
  4 cups flour (brown flour is probably great)
  1 tablespoon baking soda (try 1 tablespoon baking powder)
  1/2 tsp. salt
  1 tsp. cinnamon
  1 tsp. cloves

Add wet and dry ingredients to sugar.

Add:
  2/3 cup chopped nuts
  1/3 cup (5 and 1/3 tablespoons or 16 teaspoons) chopped citron (one orange rind and
one lemon rind)

Chill dough for several days.

Roll out about 1/4 inches thick and cut to size of a playing card.

Bake 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees.

Frost with sugar glaze and sprinkles.  Store in airtight container.


NOTE:  These cookies usually taste best a few days or a week after they are made.
