This is Bill Marshall, my fishing buddy from Michigan. The date was April 1, 1987. Bill is holding one of four steelhead he caught from the same hole on the Betsie River near Frankfort, Mihcigan. Bill is standing in that hole in the picture. What was really frustating was I didn't catch any steelhead, and Bill caught these four fish just after I had fished the hole. Four times in a row I fish the hole thoroughly and then move on. Bill comes after me no farther than ten to twenty yards behind and catches four fish. The suckers were also spawning and so Bill and I had a little contest. Each sucker was a negative one and each trout, steelhead, or salmon would be a positive one. Neither of us did very well. I caught 21 suckers for -21. Bill caught 4 steelhead for +4 and 29 suckers for a total of -25. I seem to have beat Bill in our contest but it seems like a hollow victory to me....
