CATS ON HOLIDAY TO ROCK PUBLIC SQUARE AT SUPERMAN STAMP UNVEILING SEPTEMBER 10 (CLEVELAND, OH) – Cats on Holiday, one of Cleveland’s most popular and requested rock bands, brings its original mix of rhythm and wit to Public Square Thursday, September 10, entertaining the downtown crowd before and after the First Day of Issue event for the Celebrate the Century™ 1930’s sheet, which will feature the official public unveiling of the Superman stamp. The band will play from 11:45 AM to 12:30 PM, and from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM. High-profile gigs are nothing new to this experienced quintet. They performed on the Public Radio International comedy/quiz show “Whad’ya Know” during a live broadcast from the Palace Theater earlier this year, and they entertained partiers at an outdoor bash during the festivities for baseball’s All-Star Game last year. Cats On Holiday has also opened for national acts such as Buckwheat Zydeco, and performs in local clubs including Wilbert’s Bar & Grille and the Barking Spider. The band will also perform at the Taste of Cleveland extravaganza at Nautica Labor Day, September 7. In addition to its local gig schedule (and the day jobs they all hold), Cats on Holiday released its first CD this year. “Shake This” contains 13 original tunes, reflecting their varied influences, from They Might Be Giants to Steve Earle, as well as their own lyrical takes on life on the North Coast. Cats On Holiday was formed five years ago to give its members a songwriting outlet. Its members came from well-known “back in the day” Cleveland bands: Vocalist/bassist Chuck Ellis and button/box/saxophone player Steve Frieg were once with Modern Art Studio; guitarist Dennis DeVito played for several years in Lucky Pierre; and drummer Rich Ellis (no relation to Chuck) was previously with Dr. Bloodmoney. Rounding out the quintet is guitarist/bassist Bill Fury. Celebrate the Century is the Postal Service’s unique look back at the 20th Century. Each decade will be commemorated with a sheet of 15 stamps saluting history-making people, trends and events. In addition to the Superman stamp, the 1930’s sheet will include the New Deal, the movie “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” and native Clevelander Jesse Owens.
