Each February the Fine Arts Festival and Wine Tasting starts at the intersection of Ho Hum Drive and Easy Street in downtown Carefree, Arizona. The exhibits stretch in four directions and artists come, nation wide, to display their paintings, sculptures, leaded glass, pottery and other artistic talents in the clear mountain air. Viewers stroll the streets sipping wine admiring the wonderful assortment of creativity. The shimering mystical quality of the girls in the blue painting caught my eye as did the display of Jeanne Bonine, a local artist. Jeanne's paintings are so real and the colors so vibrant that you want to reach out and touch the fragile blooms and smell the fragrance of her flowers. The Butler and Maid in the lower photo were part of a grouping of soft sculptures that drew a chuckling crowd. The collection was life sized and such fun to see, there was a man eating pop corn who had spilled a few kernels on his chest, a scrub woman on her hands and knees with bucket and brush and another grouping of individuals that must have been household help...all very cleverly done with great attention to detail. The Carefree Art Festival is just one of many art shows in the area.....Arizona seems to be a meca of talent.
