More Roses to Love

The mauve rose on the left is Angel Face,a floribunda, she (how can you call it anything else?) is one of the original attempts at the proverbial "blue" rose and one of the loveliest. Her ruffled petals open flat to show golden stamens and she has a distinctive damask fragrance. Angel Face, who won the All American Award in 1969, is a small plant, rarely getting more than 2 ft. tall, plant her with whites or yellows to show her off best. At the top right is Betty Prior, an award winner in 1935 as the Single-petaled Floribunda. Clusters of carmine pink buds open to pink edged petals that fade into cream with golden centers. Betty Prior is a small spreading plant that will bloom all summer for you keeping your garden lively looking. Heritage, at the lower right, is probably the best known of the English David Austin roses and, reportedly, his favorite. Heritage has cup shaped clear pink blooms with a heavenly fragrance and is a consistant rebloomer. I have had problems with some David Austin roses but Heritage, Othello (bright red), Graham Thomas (yellow) and Perdita (creamy white) have been winners for me. ~~~~~~~~~~"The love of gardening is a seed that once sown never dies."
