Inmarsat-B, as the digital follow-on to Inmarsat-A, offers very high-quality
voice, telex, medium and high-speed data, and fax. Offering generally lower
communications charges, Inmarsat-B is attractive for all of the applications
currently available via Inmarsat-A. The two systems will operate in parallel
for many
years.
The digital Inmarsat-M system is designed to support satellite phone and 2.4 Kbit/sec fax and data services via lightweight, lower-cost terminals which can be easily installed on ships and boats.
