Amazing the public since 1993, Fumbling is considered to
be Sarah's breakthrough album. I, personally, did not know who she
was until I heard Good Enough on the radio a few years back (though I'm
sure that you lucky Canucks were fortunate enough to follow Sarah through
her pre-FTE years). This album contains a vivid portrayal
of excrutiating, painful emotions. The first time I allowed Fumbling
to enrapture me, I felt as though my heart was being ripped out and my
soul shipped to far-off places. Hold On, my favorite song, was inspired
by a Canadian documentary titled A Promise Kept which traced the
life and marriage of a woman whose fiance was diagnosed with AIDS.
Tracks such as Ice Cream and Mary balance FTE's somber, depressing
demeanor with their upbeat, hopeful disposition. Fumbling Towards
Ecstasy is the favorite album of most Sarah McLachlan fans because
it hit so hard and with such power.
