With the release of her now triple platinum album and the most
successful summer tour two years in a row, Sarah McLachlan is more well-known
than ever. Rolling Stone did a feature article on her a few months
ago, and the June issue of Vogue magazine included an 8-page
ad with Sarah and a handful of other Lilith gals looking very glam
in Levi's jeans. And let's not forget the success she has had at awards
ceremonies lately. She's also made way for many women in the
music industry and inspired television and radio stations to spotlight
them. VH-1 has aired a few day-long specials on Sarah, Lilith
Fair, and other women in music. Having her music appear on two
recent high-selling movie soundtracks (City of Angels, X-Files) has been
another boost for Sarah, as well as her performances on late night talk
shows like Letterman and Leno. A very flattering
bit of recognition for Sarah was being chosen as the recipient of the Elizabeth
Cady Stanton Visionary Award, highlighting her role in advancing women’s
rights. She deserves to be admired, so I am glad that the media and
the public have finally noticed the inherent power of Sarah and her music.
