I am reserching Mary Baker born around 1720 possibly in Halifax Co. VA. who married Thomas Callaway born 12 Oct 1712 Essex Co. VA. and died in Ashe Co. NC Feb 1800 and is buried in the Callaway Cemetary in Ashe Co. NC. Here is an exerp from Drapers Manuscripts about her parentage. If any one knows any thing more about Mary please E-mail me.
Mary Bakers Father
In the Draper Manuscripts on micro-film (roll 12, series DD, item #51)There is a letter from Dr. James Calloway (son of Elijah and gr.son of Thomas) to Lyman C. Draper dated Aug. 1845. Dr. James C. Calloway says "Capt. Thos. Calloway married about the year 1735, Mary Baker, in N.C. Mary Baker was aunt of Rev. Andrew Baker.
Please don't get me wrong, as I am fighting
the Baker lineages as well. In my line, Mary is the Daughter of Robert Baker b 1655 va
died 1728 Lancaster co. Va. He had sons Caleb, Robert, Samuel and Andrew. Doesn't
mean any of this is correct, but that's where Mary with Thomas Callaway comes from.

My father and I are looking for information regarding the Baker family of Oxford, NC circa 1890. Unfortunately, the furthest back we can go is to the birth of Robert Lee Baker in Oxford, NC in 1888. Robert had a twin brother named John Baker, and at least two older sisters, names unknown. We think that Robert Lee Baker's mother's maiden name was Harris, and that he and his brothers and sisters were orphaned sometime around 1894. Robert Lee Baker moved to Norfolk, VA, where he lived until his death in 1957. Any help anyone out there could give would be appreciated.Geoff Baker

I seem to have 3 generations of William Bakers who each married a Susannah: Wagner, Cunningham and unknown.
Susannah Waggner Baker was a young widow in Baltimore Maryland in 1861. Her husband was William C. Baker and they were the parents of: Kate Ely Baker, William Berger Baker and Mary Charlotte Baker. The family was said to have ties to the Edge Tool and Die Company in Baltimore but something happened when William died and Susannah apparently was no longer a part of the company. She remarried to a schoolteacher named David Stegall and I find her with her and the Baker children next in Newton County, Arkansas and then on into Texas.
In Newton County, Kate (Katie) married John Williams and William Berger married Lear Brown. William Berger died when he was 23 years old leaving Lear a young widow with 2 little girls. When Lear remarried to Mr. Holland, I lost the traces of the Baker family and can't connect them to a family line.
I will greatly appreciate any help. I have records from St. Stephen's Church regarding this family and information from an old Baltimore City Directory and from the Newton County census.Polly Murphy

Trying to do genealogical reasearch from 5 - 6,000 miles away is difficult. (I'm on the Northern California coast, just north of San Francisco.)
I'm asking for help in documenting my wife's gg-grandfather, Francis Baker, who was born in Barnstable, Devon, England, around 1800.
He married Ann Yoe, and they had a son, Frederick James Baker, who was born 26 March 1821, in Barnstable. (Her name may be spelled "Yeo.")
They emigrated to the US in 1837. Ann Yoe Baker died en-route, and was buried at sea. They landed in the US at New York City.
For this family, I have only one firm date, the birthdate of the son, Frederick. The emigration date is only a year, and I don't yet know the name of the ship they took.
My wife's family told her of a painting done by Francis Baker, in England. It was a panoramic picture, of life-size figures, showing "The History of the World, from Creation to the Deluge." For this picture, he was awarded a gold medal.
My wife's mother saw both the painting (which was mounted on rollers, that allowed the audience see the work as it scrolled by), and the medal. But she's gone, now, and we don't know who to contact about the painting or medal.
I just thought that such a monumental work might help to identify the Francis Baker we're trying to document.
But I don't know the birthdates of either Francis or Ann, or the names of their parents, or (obviously) their dates.
Is there any way you can help me with information on this little family? I'm hoping that you may have some information on our North Devon family. Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated.

Looking for a family of Bakers, which name may of been Becker, before intering the USA. Can find them in East Bethleham twp, Washington Co. PA on the 1830 US Census, that is John Deahl Baker, my main line ancestor; can't tell before then, if he is already there. Have copies of Genealogical proofs, one from my great grandfather, and one from his brother. They essentially say: they came to America in 1720, and there names are Col. Jacob, William, Col. Henry, Aberham, Ludwick, John H., and Elizabeth Baker. They are assoicated with the well known Leatherman clan who came here, and entered MD, about the same time. The Leatherman clan is also in PA, when they are, or part of them are, in West Bethleham twp, Washington Co., PA, on the 1830 US Census.
