* Exported from MasterCook * BH&G Holiday Peppernuts Recipe By : BH&G Homemade Cookies Cookbook Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1/3 cup brown sugar -- firmly packed 1/3 cup dark corn syrup 2 tablespoons milk 2 tablespoons shortening 1 egg 1/2 teaspoon anise extract 1/4 teaspoon baking powder 1/4 teaspoon vanilla 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves 1/8 teaspoon ground cardamom 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour powdered sugar -- as needed 1/8 teaspoon salt 1 dash black pepper Combine brown sugar, corn syrup, milk and shortening; heat to boiling. Cool. Beat in egg. Add extract, next 4 ingredients, salt and black pepper; mix well. Mix in enough flour to make a very stiff dough, kneading in the last addition. On surface dusted with powdered sugar, shape dough into ropes 3/8 to 3/4" in diameter. Cut ropes in 3/8 to 3/4" lengths. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375F until browned, 8 to 12 minutes. Cool 1 to 2 minutes; remove to rack. Cookies will harden upon standing. Store large cookies in airtight container with apple slice. Work with hands to form a soft dough. Do not chill. Using a rounded teaspoon of dough for each, roll with hands to form 5" ropes on a lightly floured surface. * Exported from MasterCook * BH&G Kringla Recipe By : BH&G Homemade Cookies Cookbook Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1/2 cup butter or margarine -- softened 1 1/4 cups sugar 2 egg yolks 1 cup buttermilk 3 cups all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 3/4 teaspoon ground cardamom In mixing bowl cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in egg yolks; blend in buttermilk. Stir flour with remaining ingredients. Add to creamed mixture; beat until well blended. Divide dough in half; wrap in waxed paper or clear plastic wrap. Chill thoroughly. Divide one portion of the dough into 18 pieces. With hands, roll each piece of dough to a 9 or 10" rope on lightly floured surface. Shape each rope into a circle, crossing about 1 1/2" from ends of rope. Twist rope at point where rope crosses. Seal ends of rope to center of opposite side of circle, forming a pretzel shape. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Repeat shaping with remaining dough. Bake at 375F until lightly browned on bottom, 12 to 14 minutes --- tops will be pale. * Exported from MasterCook * BH&G Santa's Whiskers Recipe By : BH&G Homemade Cookies Cookbook Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 cup butter or margarine -- softened 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons milk 1 teaspoon vanilla or rum flavoring 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cup red or green candied cherries -- finely chopped 1/2 cup pecans -- finely chopped 3/4 cup flaked coconut In mixing bowl cream together butter and sugar; blend in milk and vanilla. Stir in flour, cherries and pecans. Form dough into two 8" rolls. Roll in flaked coconut to coat outside. Wrap in waxed paper or clear plastic wrap; chill thoroughly. Cut into 1/4" slices. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375F until edges are golden, about 12 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
