CANADIAN SHOWS: DIFFERENCES AND RULES

The Canadian Kennel Club is the governing body for shows across Canada. The proceedure in the conformation ring is the same as the AKC held shows. There are some differences. As our shows are smaller, most breeds are shown in their consecutive order in their groups. And most shows proceed with group judging as soon as all breeds in the group are judged.

One of the most noticable differences is that ALL best of Breed winners MUST compete at group level. Absence in the group will result in the cancellation of all points and awards won that day. Also, best Puppy in Breed winners MUST compete for Puppy Group!!!

As in the group, ALL group winners and puppy group winners MUST compete for Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show.

CANADA also has other breeds that are not AKC registered, such as the Karelian Bear dog and the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.

Also worth a note: Shih Tzus are exhibited in the NON-SPORTING class, NOT the Toy group as is the practice in the USA.

Champions and Championship Points

As in the USa, points are awarded starting at winners level. Unlike the USA, there are NO majors! Maximum points per show is 5.

At winners level, points are awarded per following
# of dogs competing 1 2 3-5 6-9 10-12 13 +
# of points awarded 0 1 2 3 4 5
This also includes any dogs excused, dismissed and disqualified.

Dogs awarded Best of Winners and Best of Breed that defeat dogs doing so also include those dogs in the point schedual. Therefore, if WD was 1 point and same dog defeats 6 bitches for BW, then totla points would be 3.

A non-champion that places in group also earns championship points:

Number of Breeds In Group Dog Placed First Dog Placed Second Dog Placed Third Dog Placed Fourth
13 or more 5 4 3 2
10-12 4 3 2 1
6-9 3 2 1 1
5 2 1 1 1
4 2 1 1 0
3 2 1 0 0
2 1 0 0 0
1 0 0 0 0
