Mrs Burgess's maiden name was Rouse. She was born in Schenectady in 1846 and lived there all her life. She is survived by a daughter Mrs M N Bromley and by two sons Isaac and John both of this city.

He was 64 years old and was prominently connected with the social and fraternal affairs of this city. By trade he was a boilermaker and was employed in the General Electric Company. Surviving him besides his wife are three daughters Mrs Jerome Van Patten, Mrs G Smith and Mrs Hiram Van Patten, all of this city.

OBIT: OBITUARY. MRS ELIZA A GATES. Eliza A Gates widow of William H Gates died Sunday morning after an illness of three days. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at her late home 119 Victory Avenue for relatives only and there will be another service at 2:30 o'clock in the First Baptist church conducted by the pastor Rev Gordon Baker. Burial will be in the Vale cemtery where George Hope chapter 271 O E S will conduct the services.

Mrs Gates was born in Niskayuna bur for many years had lived in this city. She had long been a member of the First Baptist church and for 40 years was both an officer and teacher in the Sunday school department. She was also a charter member of George Hope chapter and had been treasurer of that body from the time it was organized until her illness. she leaves three sisters (WRONG SHOULD BE DAUGHTERS) Mrs J B Van Patten, Mrs G B Smith and Mrs H S Van Patten of this city. There are three brothers Charles, Albert and James Butler. There are also three grandchildren, Mrs Albert Spoor, Mrs Arthur Van Wie and Mrs William Van Oatten and one great grandchild.

John W Bounds was found dead on the floor of his home at 1 Farm Street by his wife early last evening when she returned from a visit to a neighbor. Coroner Edmons was called and said death was due to Apoplexy. Mr Bounds had eaten supper and seemed to be in the best of health when his wife left him. He was known to many Troyjans, having been a conductor on the trolley cars for more than 25 years. He was born in Troy and had resided in this city all his life. For the last two years he was employed as a collar cutter by Hall, Hartwell Co. He was a member of Albia Lodge of Odd Fellows. The survivors are his wife, was former Jane Bennett, one son, Warren J bounds of Troy and two sisters, Mrs Edward L Hamilton of Troy and Mrs Frank Santus of Shusham, and a grandchild Yolande Bounds of Troy.

Pollard Rouse and husband of the late Ruth L Payne Rouse.Mr. Rouse, a graduate of the former Troy Business College, had been a resident of the area most of his life. From 1921 to 1931 , Mr. Rouse had been employed by Cluet, Peabody & Co. Inc. in Troy. He latter was a meatcutter at Helmbold Pork Store on Fourth Street in Troy, retiring in 1968 at the age of 66. Eight years after retirement, Mr. Rouse became active in the Foster Grandparents of Troy. He was the subject of a John Scanlon's "People" column Feb. 23, 1984 in the Record newspapers, entitled, "Foster Grandpa Still Going Strong." Thought to be the first to join the program, he was first assigned to School 12 in October 1976 where he worked with the youngsters for three years. As an octogenarian he drove daily to and from Lansingburgh Boys Club where he taught youngsters how to shoot pool as part of the program. Mr. Rouse also was active in his concern for the elderly. OBIT; Dec 20 1922 [Schenectady Historical Society] APPS. Edward J Apps former supervisor of the second ward for 43 years a well known employee of the American Locomotive Works died shortly before noon today at his home 762 Nott Street. Mr. Apps had been in failing health for some months. he worked last Saturday, however, Sunday he was taken ill suffering from a complication of diseases which caused death. He was the son of the late William H and the late Agnes A Rouse Apps and was born in Albany 62 years ago. For 60 years he had lived in Schenectady, coming to this city when two years old. his first employment was as a clerk with the H S Barney Company. Later he was employed as fireman for the New York Central Railroad and early in 1880 took a clerical position with the American Locomotive. For nearly 43 years he held a position there serving on the supervisory board of the company for more than 40 years. Mr Apps was appointed supervisor in 1914 to fill the unexpired term of office of the late Augustus Fink. Mr Apps was then elected to office 1915 and 1916. This was the only public office he ever held. He was a prominent member of the Masonic order, having served in all chairs of St George's Lodge No 6 of which he was past master. He was a member of the St George's commanding, the oriental Shrine of Troy, a past patron of Eastern Star Lodge, a charter member of Acadia Court of Amaranth and a charter member of the White Shrine of Albany. Mr Apps is survived by one son Charles E Apps of this city, one daughter Mrs Hazel Mohns of Atlanta GA, one grandson Henry E Mohns, besides one sister Mrs Harriet Oatting of this city and one brother Charles H Apps of East Orange New Jersey. Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Edward J Apps one of the oldest employees of the American Locomotive Company where he had been for over 40 years and a former Supervisor of the 2nd ward died at his home 763 Nott Street after a brief illness of a complication of diseases. The plans for the service will be made today when a daughter Mrs Hazel Mohns of Atlanta GA formerly of this city is expected here. Burial will be in the Vail Cemetery. Mr Apps was a member of St George's Episcopal Church Ferry St. Mr Apps was appointed supervisor in 1914 to fill the unexpired term of Augustus Fink who died. The funeral service of Past Commander Edward J Apps of St George's Commandery, who died Wednesday after a short illness at his home 762 Nott street, was held Sunday afternoon. There was a private service at his late home conducted by the Christian Science Church of which he was a member. A service at the Masonic Temple followed at 3 o'clock in charge of St George's commandery, Knights Templar. Eminent Commander John C Harbeck of St George's Commandery conducted the service at the temple and assisting was past commander Charles Myers, excellant prelate. In the choir were Charles Howgate, Arthur Howgate, George Rowbothan and G A Crounse organist. The bearers who officiated at the service were past commanders, including John F Rhodes, F S Swart, James H Deal, Robert R Douglas, E R Cullings and George Slump. The honorary bearers were also past commanders including George Williamson, Frank Walsh, Eugene Ryan, William Story and Garry W Van Franken. One hundred and twenty air knights attended the service dressed in full templar uniform and representatives were present from the Eastern Star, Order of the Amaranth, St George's Lodge F and A M of which he was past amster and other Masonic bodies of which Mr Apps was a member. The commandery marched to Vale cemetery where the burial took place.

OBIT: Schenectady Gazette 15 Apr 1932:7:7: Isaac Y Burgess victim of his friends auto. Tinsmith became confused while crossing street and was hit by Jennings car. Isaac Y Burgess 58 of 2014 Hugh St roofer and tinsmith was instantly killed yesterday morning when he was struck while crossing Broadway and Second Street by an automobile driven by James Jennings of 138 Third Ave., an undertaker and a close friend of Burgess for the past 30 years. Jennings who did not realize the pedestrian was his friend until after he had been killed, told coroner William C Treder and the police that Burgess became confused while making his way through traffic to his car parked on the east side of the street and stepped directly in front of the undertaker's sedan.he was carried about 20 feet on the bumper. Death was due to a fractured skull. The motorist who was going North to Broadway swung to the left in his efforts to avoid hitting the man. Trolley traffic in Broadway was delayed 15 minutes before his body was removed from the South bound tracks. Coroner Treder on his way to South Schenectady to investigate the suicide of Thomas Moore, directed that it be taken to Jennings Undertaker Parlor. Burgess was crossing the street to his small truck after purchasing some solvent at the service station on the corner of Broadway and Second Street. The survivors include Mrs Burgess and two daughters, Mrs Paul Kinum and Mrs Clarence Arthur, all of Schenectady.

Saturday morning 16 Apr 1932:2:2: Isaac Yates Burgess. Isaac Yates Burgess, husband of Margaret Ostrander Burgess died suddenly Thursday morning. Born at Saratoga 1874 he has resided in Schenectady since infancy and during the past forty years has engaged in the sheet and metal business. Mr Burgess is a past Grand of St Paul's Lodge of Odd Fellows and a member of the following lodges, St George's no 6 F & A M, St George's Chapter no 157 R A M 32nd degree Mason offiliated with the Albany Sovereign Consistory Oriental Mystic Shrine, Rotterdam Masonic club, Glenwood Rebekah Lodge, Dorpian Envampment Sheet Metal Union no 83, Belleview Reformed Church and Bellview Republican Club. Mrs Anna M Edmonds daughter of the late Joseph Lushman one of the first patrolman on the Schenectady policre force died at Ellis hosptial at 1 o'clock yesterday morning following an operation performed Tuesday. She fell in the hallway of her home 625 Liberty street about two weeks ago and sustained srerious injuries from which she did not recover. Her father Joseph Lushman went on the police force of the city about fifty years ago at about the same time as William Jones recently deceased. Mrs Edmonds was born in Niskayuna January 30 1850 and had always lived in this city or vicinity. She married Waldron Edmonds of Schenectady about 1875 and he died twelve years ago. Surviving are two daughters Albertina and Maude Edmonds of this city; a brother Abram Lusher of Schenectady and three sisters Mrs William Vedder of this city and Mrs Charles Van Atten and Mrs Edward Wagner of Rotterdam. The funeral will take place from the house Monday afternoon at 2 0'clock Rev J G Menges pastor of the Second Reformed church of which she was a member officiating. Burial will be in Vale cemetery.

EUGENE EDMONDS. Eugene Edmonds formerly of 529 Hamilton St died Saturday in

the county almshouse where he had been living for a short time. He was a native of this state and was formerly an employe of the American Locomotive Company and was retired some time ago.

The service will be held today at the convenience of the family and burial will be in Vale Cemetery. He is survived by a nephew Patrolman William Edmonds of the local police department and several sisters in this city.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon from the residence with Rev Harold Buckland pastor of the Albany Street Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Vale Cemetery. The home will be open for friends tomorrow evening from 7 until 9 o'clock.

Mrs Edmonds was the widow of the late Darwin Edmonds, was born here Jan 7 1859, and had lived in Schenectady her entire life. She was formerly active in the Albany Street Methodist church and was a member of the Union Bible class there.

She leaves two sons Patrolman William Edmonds of the Schenectady police department, and Gilbert Edmonds; a daughter Mrs Albert Elliot; two sisters Mrs William Whitney and Mrs George Winne Sr; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, all of Schenectady.
