Schodack was formed 17 Mar 1795. Parts of Berlin & Nassau taken off 1806. In 1855 it consisted of the villages of Castleton, Schodack Landing, East Schodack,South Schodack, Schodack Center, Schodack Depot, Bunker Hill & Muitzes Kill. The census consisted of dwellings numbered in the order of visitation, material built and value, families were numbered in the order of visitation, included every person whose usual place of abode on the first day of June was in this family, including age,sex, color (whether Black or Mulatto), relation to the head of household. County, state or country born, single, married or widowed, years of residence in Schodack, occupation and whether native, naturalized or alien. Persons of color were not taxed, persons over 21 who could not read and write deaf, dumb, blind, insane or idiotic individuals were recorded.
