Life is temporary. How many times do we hear that? We hear it evey day, every time we open the newspaper, or turn on the TV news. We hear about someone or something dying.
Knowing that one day, we, too, will pass from this life, wouldn't it be nice to know that death isn't forever? Who wouldn't want to live on? Some would say that that is why we have children--so that we can live on in them. So Rafiki taught Simba in the Disney movie The Lion King.
Somehow, however, that seems unsatisfactory. Our children, after all, are unique beings. They are not us. So amidst all of this death going on around us, is there something---ANYTHING---that lasts forever?
There is. His Name is Jesus Christ, and He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13:13). He knows what death is like---He's experienced it. Doesn't it make sense that you should anchor your life on Him? He said, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and he who liveth and believeth in Me shall never die." (John 11:25-26) It doesn't mean that you won't experience death: it means that you can face it with the calm assurance that life hasn't stopped, that you will live forever with Jesus Christ.
