Why I Am A Christian

Reason 4:

Because the World Causes Pain but Jesus Brings Healing

Living in this world brings pain. Anyone who doesn't understand that obviously hasn't lived here very long.

Pain can make us strong, or it can make us weak: it depends on the nature of the injury, and on how we react to it. Most pains that we deal with are minor: the pain of being mildly sick, an argument with a friend, a misspoken word, etc. There are, however, major heartbreaks from which we may not be able to recover on our own. Some examples might be the death of a family member or close friend, a divorce, a severe illness, etc.

It is natural for people to seek out help when suffering pain, especially the pain of a major heartbreak. Who wouldn't, for example, go to their medicine cabinet when they start suddenly coughing? After that, who wouldn't go to a doctor if they are still sick? So many go after suffering such pain: many turn to drugs, alcohol, or friends. But these are not solutions: drugs and alcohol merely take the pain away, not curing the very real heartbreak; and friends, while they can be of help, may still be unable to totally cure a person's heartbreak. (If a person has a heart attack, he or she needs to see a cardiologist, not just his or her best friend.)

Christ's mission here on Earth was to heal the brokenhearted. He said, "The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised". Christ came, and lived, and died, and rose again, to heal YOU, friend. Jesus has been there through every major heartbreak of my life...and there've been plenty.

If you have a heartbreak, you need Jesus to heal it. Why don't you ask Him to? Email me when you do.
