Cocoon

Fresh from the cocoon
Wings still damp and curled
Searching for my soul
My place in this world

Fettered for so long
In a dry and lonely place
With my own lost soul
I came face to face

Emerging from within
Wings of self, buried fears
From layers of protection
Built up over years

Gradual realization
That life isn't so dark
Bursting from my cocoon
Naked beauty, so stark

Rainbow hued colours
Return to caress my mind
And my long lost self
I willingly find

Spreading wings at last
I rise and take flight
Vowing never to return
To that cold, lonely night

Heading for the sun's glory
I flutter, glide and careen
Such incredible beauty
For so long unseen

And at frequent intervals I light
To enjoy another scene
And find that life's journey
Is, again, peaceful and serene
