THE NORMAL HEART

This is a picture of a 'Normal' Heart..
The heart pumps the blood around the body from the lungs so that the body and all its organs receive a good supply of oxygen to keep it well and healthy.
The oxygen is taken in by the tissues and cells in the body and they in turn give deoxygenated blood back to the venous system so it can return to the Lung via the heart to get a fresh supply of oxygen again.
HOW IT WORKS

VENOUS BLOOD FLOW

The blood that hasn,t much oxygen returns to the heart through the veins and into the Vena Cava and from there into the Right Atrium. From the right atrium the blue deoxygenated blood goes through the Tricuspid Valve and into the Right Ventricle. The blood is a bluer shade of red because it has much less oxygen in it than before it was used up by the body , hence Blue Blood.
When the Heart Relaxes (Diastolic) the Tricuspid Valve opens and the blood flows into the ventricle . When the Heart beats (Systolic) the Tricuspid Valve closes and the Pulmonary Valve opens and the blue blood goes up through the Pulmonary Artery and then into the lungs to pick up fresh oxygen.
ARTERIAL BLOOD FLOW
The Blood then collect oxygen from the lungs and is a brighter red colour
because of it . The blood then goes into the Pulmonary Veins and through to the Left Atrium. When the Heart relaxes (Diastolic) the freshly oxygenated blood then flows through the Mitral Valve and into the Left ventricle. When
the Heart beats again (Systolic) the Aortic Valve opens and the blood is pumped from the left ventricle up and through the Aorta to flow back around
the body with its new supply of oxygen again . This is the simple but highly efficient and complex work of the Heart . Simple and complex in the same sentence may sound like a contradiction but all the Heart has to do in simple terms is pump blood around the body . Saying that it is an amazing and complex Organ . Its an astounding fact that the Heart pumps over               of
blood every 24 hours in the average person.
