1836 LETTER
Woolich June 8th, 1836
My very dear Mother (give my love to all my brother and sisters ....)
I am realy sorry to her that you feel cast down on my
account. in consequence of my not writing you but I can assure you that
there is not the least or forgetfulness on my part for the reason that
I direct to you was simply this, because I thought I would be all the same
to you; and I cannot --- ever wrote one to him without mentioning you in
--.. Therefour I thought you was under no consern about ---. James is married
you say, he never told me anything about that. I suppose he has got a mass
company and help make indect drawing in the same yoke. --- him I only suspect
that he is married to a Roman Catholic if so I hope he will make the best
of it, but really I am much afraid things will not work so well and they
might have done had it been otherwise. I am realy happy to hear that you
are al well in particualr you at you advanced period of life. This is one
of the greatest tempral blessings if applied to the purpose of the saving
of the imortal soul. Now this is the end of all creation that the soul
might live with God for ever and ever; this is the end for which God did
create us, to glorify our God below and find our way to heaven, my mother
I have thought a good deal about you of late and at a Throne of Grace I
have not forgotten oft the cause of my dear widdowed mother, that he might
be prepared even when goes the way of all living, no my mother you not
start at the idea of prpartation for it is your priveledge to know your
sins forgiven,. Therefore rest not or go to the Lamb which was him for
the sins of the world, this is the ground on which I build my hopes . I
the chief of sinner am but Jesus died for me. And say read the Bible read
the Scriptures and God will shine ever moind a wonderful night such a light
as lighten up the dark parts of your mind, and fill it with peace and joy
in believeing an -----. Other your Soul may live before him. We are all
too careful about many thing saving what shall we eat or what shall we
drink or wherewith all shall we be clothed, and have helft the weighting
matters to --- that were more concerned about their welfare in a future
state. But is this resonable is it right is it not real madness.to pay
so much attention to the tottering wall of this our earthly house of clay
that will soon be cast down in the dust, yea becuome food for worms of
the earth, but then my mother up let we be doing it is high time for us
to awake out of this sleep that has so long blinded our eyes to those things
which make for our eternal peace, it is our high privelage to see
with good old Job " I know that my Redeemer liveth and that he shall stand
at the latter day upon the earth:. and though after my skin worms destroy
this body' yet in my flesh shall I see God; Whom I shall see for myself,
and mine eyes shall behold, and not another" Job 19th Chap 25.26.27 ver:
