Perfect Entertainment, the people behind the Saturn
Wipeout series now bring you a conversion of Sega's
popular AM3 racer.
GRAPHICS 9/10
The graphics are top notch, they represent the arcade
original faithfully. The frame rate is extremely smooth
ala Sega Rally, and it also moves very fast at 30fps.
The tracks are very colourful and are full of life.
The bike itself is extremely detailed and very smooth
if controlled via the 3D pad, you also get a rev counter
in the bottom right hand corner telling you how fast your
going and when to change gear.
SOUNDS 8/10
The in game music is fast paced Japanese 'arcadey' style
tunes which work very well. The ability to change which
music you listen to on each track is not available as it
was in Sega Rally which is a bit of a disappointment. The
out of game music suits it purpose well and blends in with
the overall effect.
GAME PLAY 10/10
The playability in Manx TT is spot on, if you use the 3D pad
you will have pin point precise control at your finger tips.
The 3D pad responds so quickly and smoothly you would think
the pad was designed for this game and not NiGHTS. On the
other hand the regular controller works fine but for full
satisfaction the 3D pad is needed. The actual game itself
is quite difficult, you have a choice between Arcade and
Saturn mode, nothing new their. In the Saturn mode you can
either practice a course or select the Manx TT challenge
which involves racing in all 4 courses and winning in each.
If you succeed you will be awarded with a selection of
superbikes and access to the superbike challenge, which is
even harder. There are two main courses available, the Manx TT
and the Laxey Coast course. These courses are then mirrored
with different backdrops to create the final two courses. Finally there is a cool sheep mode where you get the chance to race
around the courses on a sheep! Nice one Sega.
LASTABILITY 7/10
The game suffers slightly in the lastability score due to the
lack of tracks, 2 tracks (4 when mirrored) isn't enough these
days for the hard-core racing fan and so Manx TT wets the appetite
of the games player leaving them wanting more, unfortunately it
won't happen. In any case as it stands Manx TT Superbike is a high class Saturn game with so much playability, you can forgive
the amount of tracks available and simply enjoy the ride of your
life.
