Winter?! Australia has a winter??

July 12th 2000
It was around early May when we started waking up to a freezing bedroom. Or, to be entirely accurate, to a freezing lounge, because we've moved the bed into the lounge in order to
a) have the bed in the same room as the big TV, which seems to be a permanent lifestyle decision...
b) get the bed away from the crazy neighbours who regularly shout at each other in the middle of the night (we hear him better than her - he, it seems, was a "wounded bird" when they met three years ago, but now she's a BITCH!! For more information and a complete MP3 recording, please email...)
c) confuse the estate agents when they show people round (the owner has put the house on the market, but it's not going anywhere until they sort out HUGE body corporate problems), and
d) to get the bed by the fire.

Anyway, it's got right parky cold in the mornings and evenings, so we've bought heaters. And I've had to curtail my lunchtime swimming/bodysurfing, unless I want to return to the office with skin colour akin to that of a smurf. There was nothing about the temperature variation in the emigration literature...

In fact, it's quite nice watching the seasons change, and we've had gorgeous sunny days throughout June and July, so that lunch is still warm enough to get sunburn sitting by the beach...

Marathon news: Dee got 4.12.26 in the spectacular Sydney 'Host City' marathon, far and away a personal best. The route followed that of the Olympic Games, crossing the Harbour Bridge and ending up with a lap and a half of the Olympic Stadium, where I and the neighbours were cheering her on. A wonderful day.

Then in the half marathon three weeks (or so) later, she scored an easy sub two-hour time, and thoroughly enjoyed herself. Next up is next weekend's 14km City to Surf, which we're both doing - registered as a team even, although our approaches will be somewhat diversified, with Dee starting at the front and running all the way, and me starting at the back and proceeding in a casual stroll kind of manner, with a bottle of cider in my backpack to celebrate the top of Heartbreak Hill at about 8km. Watch this space for our times...

All for now... Love from Oz...
