MOHICAN SOUP

performed by

THE DALE WARLAND SINGERS

"MOHICAN SOUP ... kept one's ears delightfully off balance as the singers, accompanied by various rhythmic instruments ... had a romp" - Joanne Hoover, Albuquerque Journal

WHEN'S THE LAST TIME You Heard An Original Native American Work For Choir? Sung In Mohican? With A Huge Dance Drum? Performed By One Of The Leading Ensembles In The Country? Don't Miss It This Time!

MOHICAN SOUP is an engaging mix of American Indian and Western European vocal techniques, Mohican Soup stirs the Mohican language into a musical stew. Foods are important to all Native American gatherings and ceremonies, and the text of MOHICAN SOUP is made up of food names such as bread, berries, fruit, corn, beans and, of course, soup. BRENT MICHAEL DAVIDS is award- winning composer whose commissions include compositions for the Joffrey Ballet, the Kronos Quartet and the National Symphony Orchestra. Davids, an enrolled member of the Mohican Nation, is one of the very few classically trained Native American composers working today. Mohican Soup was supported in part by the Composer Commissioning Program of the American Composer Forum.
