Dorian Lester was convicted last April on insufficient and purely circumstantial evidence. Indeed, vital evidence was withheld at the time by his court appointed attorneys, who presented a mitigation case. Dorian Lester, who has always and publicly protested his innocence, made several attempts to replace his lawyers. A motion to retain a private one was turned down in the weeks leading up to his trial.

His present attorney, Lloyd Snook, retained by Valentina Artsrunik and his supporters in England, has presented a motion for a new trial on which the judge has yet to rule.

In the meantime, Dorian Lester has been incarcerated for 17 month in a 5' by 7' lavatory-like cell, under the constant watch of a closed circuit camera and 24 hour spotlights. He only leaves his cell for a twice-weekly shower, shackled and manacled from the waist, and wearing an electrocuting belt for court appearances. A broken elbow and ailments related to long term solitary confinement have been allowed to fester for months. No contact visits with his priest are permitted, and every opportunity to inflict humiliation and brutalize a proud man is taken.

Throughout all of this, Dorian Lester has behaved with remarkable fortitude and stoicism.
