Introduction
Hamrun is one of the modern suburbans from the side of the buildings. It is known as the land of Saint Gaetan because it is a providence how it contains many caritas institutes. This place has now developed much and became one of the most busiest places, with the commercial activities, places in Malta.The limits of Hamrun now a days are smaller than they were because when Saint Venera and Marsa became a parishes they took part of the Hamrun area.
Buildings and Monuments
Hamrun hosts many schools which include the one of the 6th Forms, G.F. Abela Junior Collage, which is controlled by the University of Malta. It also holds the Milk Daily Products (MDP) with the product signature of Benna, which is the factory that treats Malta's daily products such as milk, yogurts, etc. The Radio City, a theater, which provided entertainment for countless thousands of Maltese people, is located at Mile End Street. Today is used as a headquarter for the political party, Malta Labour Party.The parish church of Saint Gaetan, the church of Saint Francis, the church of Our Lady of Visitation, the church of the Assumption and Tas-Samra (Samra is the Maltese word for tanned). It also holds the international headquarters of the M.U.S.E.U.M., an international organization - founded in 1907 by Father Gorg Preca - which is dedicated to the teaching of catechism.
There are some remainings of the Aqueduct built by the Knights of the Order of Jerusalem to carry water from the old capital city, Mdina and Rabat to Valletta, the current capital city.
Population
At Hamrun there are about 11,653 inhabitants. They are called "Hamrunizi" and sometimes referred to as "Tas-Sikina", Cut-throaters, Another name used for the inhabitants was "Ta' Werwer", Bullies. These two nicknames were evolved together with the first years the local soccer club was established in 1910. The Hamrun hooligans gave birth to these two nicknames. The inhabitants of Hamrun are most fanatics of their local feast, that of Saint Gaetan.
