BOB DIRKSEN 1960? - 1986 STATION AGENT, ASSISTANT STATION MANAGER, STATION MANAGER ADM MKC SLN STL DEN I can answer about Bob Dirksen and Dean Kirksey. They have both been hired on at the big airline in the sky. Not sure when Dean checked out but Bob Dirksen died in 1987. -Chuck Tisckos (2/24/99) Ruth Beck has a card from Dirksen's funeral. She said he died 11/8/87. She will see if it has his birth date on it. Will advise later. Called over to UAL and Ceil Ponder no longer works there. Will try her house. -Chuck Tisckos (2/28/99) Ruth just called me. Bob checked in Aug 22, 1935. Died Nov 8, 1987. I think he was sick but did not tell any of us. -Chuck Tisckos (3/3/99) Per the Social Security Death Index: ROBERT DIRKSEN DOB 22 Aug 1935 DOD 08 Nov 1987 Age 52 At 63366 (O Fallon, Saint Charles, MO) SSN issued in Kansas -Jake Lamkins (8/7/01) Photos of Bob on DEN ramp sent by Mojo Muller & posted at FL Club. (8-7-01) Hey, Jake-is this the same Robert Dirksen that was SM in SLN with Central? He was SM when I hired on with CN in 1964. Our bunch consisted of Curtis Armbruster, Doyle Pack, Loren Mach, Don Houdeshall, Kenny-(can't remember his last name-jeez, I'm amazed I remembered all the other names, I have trouble remembering what I did yesterday!) Anywho, just wondered, couldn't recognize him behind the beard. -Bill Fleming (8-7-01) Bill, I don't know if Bob was in SLN. He was Asst Mgr in STL in '68 when I went there & ,so far as I know, was in that position until he got cut & came to DEN in about 1985 or so when I was SSA there. The first time I knew he was in DEN was when he showed up at Gate 6 to work a PEX 727. -Jake Lamkins (8-7-01) That's a good pic of Bob. Cant remember the day or who took the pic,but must have been abt 83 84. ...How stupid of me. Bob was in Big D when this pic was taken. -Jim Hargis, STL (8-7-01) (It was taken) Summer of 86, DEN Stapleton Airport, around gate D10 or D12. He was running onlines at the time. I didn't know until recently Bob had ever been mgmt. Lots of guys who came to DEN at that time were understandably not happy with the situation, but Bob was always pleasant the times I worked around him. -MoJo Muller (8-7-01) Bob's hometown is SLN. I know he worked at ADM but I don't remember him ever mention working SLN station with CN. He never told anyone he was sick, but apparently he was terminal. Jerry Baltz or Logan Wilmoth were old CN agents and might know more about Bob. That's a nice photo of him. -Chuck Tisckos (8-8-01) I worked for Bob when I was an agent in STL. I was very sorry to learn of his passing. He was a very gentle and wonderful person to work for. -Charlie Clark (8-8-01) Subject: ALEA Deceased List You can add Robert Dirksen STL sta. agt, from lung cancer. Some time in the early 90's. -Dewayne Faulkner (1/23/05) This is a case of which list a person belongs on when they have worked multiple areas. Bob was in STL management for so many years, I put him on the management list. Before that he was assistant manager then manager at SLN. I have not been able to pin down his seniority date so 1960 is an educated guess. -Jake Lamkins (1/23/05) I started with FL on 11/7/61 in Minot, ND as a Station Agent. After 2 miserable cold winters up there I transferred to Sidney, NE in May of '63. Was there 2 years when they reduced the 3 man station to a 2 man station and I was sent to Colorado Springs. I met Truman Jeter in Colorado Springs and we became good friends. Truman was a very ambitious guy and he moved up the ladder quite quickly. In '68 he called me up to see if I was interested in a position as Customer Service Supervisor in St. Louis. I accepted the position. Bob Brown was the Station Manager with Truman, Bob Dirksen and Jim Mustain as Assistant Managers. Around November of '69 my position in St. Louis was eliminated and I was sent to Denver in a like position. In November of '70 one of the Assistant Manager positions opened up in St. Louis. I believe it was when Jim Mustain went to Memphis, but not sure of that. Anyway, Bob Brown called me and offered the position to me and I moved back to St. Louis. -Larry Roberts (4/16/06)
