Blakeley Fri, Sep 21, 2001 00:00:00 OGDEN -- Fred Thomas Blakeley, 82, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2001 at a local care center of causes incident to age. He was born Aug. 26, 1919 in Ogden, a son of Mabel Christensen and Thomas Grant Blakeley. On Oct. 4, 1941, Fred married Ruth Barker in Oakland, CA. Their marriage was solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple on May 23, 1990. Ruth preceded him in death on Oct. 13, 1999. He was reared and educated in Ogden where he received his Associate of Science Degree from Weber College. Fred was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Country Hills Ward where he was a High Priest and served in the Extraction Program. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Air Force in the 19th Bombardment Group. He retired from the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a Lt. Col. Following the war, Fred lived in California for two years where he was a pilot for Pan American Airways. He then moved back to Ogden and worked for Frontier Airlines until his retirement in 1979. Fred enjoyed golfing, racquet ball, traveling, and spending time at the family cabin. Surviving are two sons and one daughter, Jeffery Grant (Shelley) Blakeley, Logan; William Thomas (Shanna) Blakeley, Riverdale; Penny B. (Kent) Woolley, Kaysville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Lindquist"s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Interment, Lindquist"s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard. Died 9-17-01 in Ogden Utah. -Al Kendell (11/14/05) Fred was SLC based until he checked out in the B-737, then DEN. I flew with Fred a lot as his co-pilot. I flew with Bruce on many occasions and knew him very well personally. Both were excellent pilots and genuinely nice guys. Fred flew B-29's based in China.
