JOHN LOVE 1958 - 1961, 1974 - 1985 CORPORATE SECRETARY, BOARD OF DIRECTORS DEN I noticed that in the 1959 pictures of the Frontier Airlines officers was a secretary named John A. Love. If that John A. Love was the same one who later became governor of Colorado, should that be fact be pointed out on the website? I am writing this message because I learned about the death of former Governor John Love today. -Joe Baden (1/27/02) Here is the webpage with the pictures of the 1959 officers including the one of John Love: denfl.tripod.com/FL_Leaders1959.jpg. That John Love (who was identified as company secretary) looks like the one who later became governor of Colorado (from 1963 to 1973). I have never lived in Colorado, but my sister attended the University of Denver during the late 1960s and our family vacationed out there during that time. I recall hearing about Governor Love, especially after he was selected by President Nixon to be the country's energy czar during the 1973 energy crisis. If that web address does not work, please let me know. Thanks. -Joe Baden (1/28/02) Posted at FL Club Ex Colorado Governor John Love died this past week. Is this the same John Love who was on FL's Board Of Directors at one time? I'm thinking it is. If so, does anyone have the dates he served? -Jake Lamkins (1/28/02) Re: Ex Colorado Governor John Love Governor Love is the same John Love who was on the Fronter Board. Sorry I don't know the exact dates but do know he was on the Board when I was in Public Affairs 68-71 -Ann Yanulavich (1/28/02) To Ann: My research found that John Love was Colorado Governor 1963-73. So he was on our Board while he was Governor? I'm attaching a photo from the 1959 FL Stockholders Report which has John on it. -Jake Lamkins (1/29/02) John Love After obtaining a law degree from the University of Denver, Love moved back to Colorado Springs to open a successful practice. By 1954 Love was the president of the Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce, and as such was instrumental in the development of the United States Air Force Academy. In 1963 Governor Love began his eleven-year job as Governor of Colorado. Not since Governor Gilpin especially publicized the state in the 1800's has anyone been quite the promoter for Colorado that Love was. He campaigned to bring the Olympic Games to Colorado, although that dream was never realized. He was a popular governor, however, for implementing a program of tax reform called "freeport legislation" and for supporting Colorado soldiers by visiting Vietnam and Cambodia in 1972. -Internet (1/29/02) OBITUARY A memorial service for former Gov. John A. Love will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Magness Arena on the campus of the University of Denver. The three-term Colorado governor died in his sleep on Monday at Shalom Park Nursing Home. There was cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be sent to: The John A. Love Scholarship Fund, University of Denver, College of Law, 7039 E. 18th Ave., Denver, CO 80220. Personal mail for the family may be forwarded to: Morrison Love & Co., 1777 Harrison St., Suite 806, Denver, CO 80210. -By The Denver Post on January 26, 2002 - John Love was a very handsome man. I know that I worked closely with his office and his chauffeur during the years I worked for Vern Carlson - that was approx. 67-70.. Since we were the Public Affairs Department obviously we would work closely with the Governor but I believe he may have still been on the Board. Recall a time when Gov, Love had a special charter flight going up to RAP with invited guests for a hunting trip. My brother and wife happened to be visiting me at the time and went to the airport to see this flight with all its dignitaries depart. Governor Love invited my brother and his new bride to go along to enjoy the flight and then return with the crew. They were thrilled, of course, and still talk about it. -Ann Yanulavich (1/29/02) Re: Ex Colorado Governor John Love; He is one in the same. His son, Dan Love, also worked for Frontier and was a principle with Frontier Commuter for a while. I heard Dan Love was also with the new Frontier, but not sure... Back during the UAL debacle some of us, as ALPA reps. went to Gov. Love's home. We asked him for advice and his help. John Love did try to intercede with the city council and mayor (Pena) when we asked the council to NOT allow UAL our gates and other Stapelton facilities UNTIL UAL completed the merger. Of course the council bought UAL's, Monty Lazruth's, statement that the Frontier Employees were the main asset of the FAL acquisition. They allowed UAL the rights to the gates and facilities and took away any effective ability for us to complete the United merger. As much as I remember of that unfortunate situation, I do remember Gov. Love making an effort for us, along with expressing his desire to see Frontier's employees survive even if it meant being under another logo. -Billy Walker (1/30/02) A review of my files shows Love as corporate secretary in 1959 and on the board of directors in 1961. The FL annual reports 1963 - 1973 do not show him to be a board member. However, he is shown as a board member on the 1974 - 1984 annual reports. The Apr 1974 article notes his election to the board. It also mentions his previous service in 1958 - 61. I don't believe an annual report was issued for 1985 since FL was bought by PX late that year. I will assume Love served until then. -Jake Lamkins (2/9/11)
