What does FAQ mean?

FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions.

What is a FAQ?

A FAQ is a document with answers to frequently asked questions about a particular subject. It is usually updated on a regular basis.

Where do they come from?

FAQs originally came from Usenet Newsgroups. In these discussion groups somebody took it upon themselves to compile a list of answers to questions that were frequently asked within the group. Nowadays, FAQs are created even when there is no associated newsgroup in order to provide commonly sought answers.

Why read them?

FAQs are informative documents which by their very nature usually answer the questions you might have about a particular subject.

What's next?

After having compiled and read several thousands of FAQs, we can say that a trend is emerging. Many FAQs are moving from newsgroups and TXT format to more elaborate and graphically endowed HTML pages on servers around the world.
