A fan favorite,Hard Boiled cements John Woo status as the best action film director in the world. Although not as moving or emotional as the director's previous works,Hard Boiled is celebrated mainly for its' actions sequences. For sheer action, nothing comes close to Hard Boiled, as the film captures some of the most breath-taking and intense action sequences. Written and directed by Woo in 1992,Hard Boiled was John Woo's swan-song to Hong Kong as well as his most recent film with Chow Yun Fat.

Storyline
Chow Yun Fat plays Inspector "Tequila" Yuen, a hot-headed cop who decided to take matters into his own hands after his partner is brutally killed in a shoot-out.
He teams up with undercover cop Tony (Tony Leung) to take on the evil arms baron Johnny Wong (Anthony Wong),resulting in cinema's most exciting action sequence when the two raid the arms factory located in the basement of a hospital.

Review
Hard Boiled may not be my favourite John Woo film or runner-up, but it's certainly a favourite among many other fans.
It's easy to see why Hard Boiled is so celebrated as it has some of the most breath-taking action sequences that no other action film could rival. Right from the start, director John Woo takes you through two hours of mayhem and carnage, climaxing in the much-talked about hospital sequence.
If A Better Tomorrow carries a message for Hong Kong's youth, Hard Boiled is clearly an inspirational for Hong Kong police. The character Tequila Yuen, modelled after Hollywood screen icon Dirty Harry is an exceptional policeman, willing to put his life on the line of duty . Despite being an action film on the surface,Hard Boiled is one film that raises a lot of questions on humanity especially with the character Tony. Tony is an undercover cop who realises his moral values is slowly fading as he slips deeper into the underworld. Wonderfully displayed before the warehouse shoot-out, Tony is forced to shoot his own boss to please arms dealer Johnny Wong. Actor Tony Leung shines in this dark moment where he shoots the boss and laughs but you could clearly see pain in his eyes. Johnny's henchman Mad Dog is also an interesting character as he believes that there are certain lines one shouldn't across. Raged by Johnny's reckless killing, Mad Dog tried to stop him from killing the innocent but ends up dying instead.
Hard Boiled truly stands out as one of the best action picture of all-time and one film which no John Woo fan should miss.
