Fatso's Fishing News

Forward

The latest news in NSW is the re-introduction of the inland fishing licence. The current rates of $10 for 28 days, $25 for a year and $70 for three years is fairly reasonable when it is considered that all money raised is to go back into management of the fisheries. As pointed out in the editorial of the latest Freshwater Fishing, NSW anglers are much better off than their Victorian counterparts where $2.5 million is raised and only $800 000 gets spent on the fisheries. In NSW the estimates for expenditure on fisheries for the 1998/99 season is in the vacinity of $4.5 to $4.8 million. More information and a chance to give feedback to NSW fisheries is available at the NSW fisheries home page. Also the new bag and size limits are available on a handout given out with the licence when you buy it. If you get a license from those stores selling the gold licenses you get entered into a draw to win prizes at the end of the year.

On another matter a little commendation to NSW fisheries for stocking 23 000 endangered trout cod in the last year. It may not seem much when compared to the 3.7 million exotic trout stocked but it is certainly a step in the right direction, these pretty fish should be nurtured back into our waterways so more people can have the chance to encounter them.
